Every two weeks they have a RumRace...see calendar on melbourneyachtclub.com and click on "On the Water" for dates and times. The public is welcome to come and crew on a sailboat. This means sitting on one side as "rail meat" or "Ballast" and jumping or crawling across to the other side every time the boat tacks. Great fun and a good way to meet new friends. Afterwards everyone goes upstairs to the bar and relives the race. Bring cash for the bar and a water bottle for onboard. Wear shoes that will not mar the topside of the boat. There's nothing like being out on the water in the Indian River on a sailboat.
