Many hiking trails with awesome views & waterfalls. Except for the trail to Linville Falls, the trails are strenuous, but well worth the effort!

Mt. Mitchell is the highest point in the eastern US! There's an observation tower at the summit, a short walk from the parking lot. Hiking trails make it feel like you’re in Maine or New Hampshire!

Roper Hollow Road (the road that takes you up to The High Land) eventually ends at a parking area for a trail into South Mountains State Park. The trail is mostly a ridgeline hike (or mtn bike ride) that connects to the network of trails in the heart of the park about 4 miles from the parking area. Even if you don't care to hike, it's worth the scenic ride to the end of Roper Hollow Road.
