City/town information

Llandeilo is a unique little town, with almost no large chain stores. The quaint streets feature individual shops and local shop keepers. There is a small co-op supermarket and a locally owned supermarket in the town. You can also get different types of fast food, petrol and other essentials here. Ask Kate about opening hours though, because they do vary during the year.

Llandovery is the situation of the largest local supermarket (co-op) - there are also other pubs, shops and eateries here. There is a castle in the car park (why not?) - and it is a good launching off location for exploration of the brecons.

Llangadog is a tiny village about 4 miles from us here at Llwyn Yr Ynn, there is a general store, a newsagents/postoffice, a butchers and a couple of pubs and restaurants. If you want to go out for a wee drink, this is the nearest venue. The red lion is a building dating back to the late 1500's and is full of charm. The goose and cuckoo is a wonderful place to eat.

Sightseeing

This place is amazing even on a rainy day - it features the largest unsupported glass dome in the world with tropical plants beneath. Acres of beautiful gardens, shops and cafes, sometimes with added events and attractions (check their website). The national bird of prey centre is also on the national botanical site.

Great historical castle here on our doorstep. A very well preserved ruin of which a huge amount remains. Adjacent is an area of ancient woodland and also Newton House (a stately home of the Rhys family).

Laugharne Castle is huge and remains fairly well preserved. Laugharne itself is a charming town offering food and great walks along the estuary.

The view from the top of the hill at Dryslwyn is truly breathtaking, and entry is free. Parking is also free in a car park over the road from the castle site.
