Food Scene
There are wonderful places to eat and drink, whether you want a bar, a cafe, an upscale restaurant or just a bite.
There has always been a lot of turn over in this growing and gentrifying community, but of course ever more so since covid.
Many of the places listed in my neighborhood-guide are unfortunately no longer around, but many new places have sprung up. I will start the editing process now, but it will take me a while to list the more recent additions to the area. Please don't hesitate to ask for recommendations while you are here, and of course, it pays to explore.
Best cappuccino in the hood. Fresh baked goodies, both savory and sweet, all made on the premises. I'm in there almost daily - they're the only ones who make my iced-cappucino just the way I like it!

A newish place in this area. Excellent Italian dinner (!), a bit pricy for this neighborhood. Open for brunch too.

Great bagels baked right there. A great variety of bagels and greater variety of stuff to spread on them. (But I don't recommend their coffee.)

Ultra-Tempting patisserie and excellent take-out food with a French flare. A highly recommended place to pick up dinner, or you can stay and eat it at their one big communal table.

Ok, It's not the greatest Thai food in NYC, but it'll do in a pinch. I recommend the Pad Thai or the Basil Chicken... it's a good option when you want to take food back to the house to eat at home.

The best by-the-slce street pizza in the whole city - my honest opinion. They have a sit-down branch on nearby Grand Ave, but I say take your slice onto the Pratt campus and eat among the scultpures.

Really good pizza and ok other dishes, but what I most love about this place is eating on the roof garden in beautiful Clinton Hill.

A cafe w/ wifi... and a lovely place to sit. Nice breakfast too. When you get bored with your work or conversation, check out the hand-made and clever knick-knacks on display (and for sale).

A nice place to stop for coffee (not much else there). The atmosphere - garden floor of a brownstone - is lovely. You can sit in the garden; I like the off-the-sidewalk seating outside in front.

What a cute place! Just discovered it the other day. If you're here in Summer, you MUST try their blueberry-mint limeade!

Great, inexpensive groceries and prepared foods for an easy meal with little to no time spent cooking. If you are a long-stay guest you can store some meals in the freezer. It's a quick bus-ride away. I often walk there (about 1.5 miles) and take the bus back. Or just a couple stops away on my subway line.

One of the most popular restaurants, and one of the first, in today's Fort Greene. Check the day for the all-you-can-eat mussels special. The hamburgers are great. Romantic French bistro atmosphere.

A bar with a sweet back garden on an up-and-coming street on the border between the neighborhoods of Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy. THere's a nice low-key but hip atmosphere here. Check out the area too

Basic fairly large Supermarket, right at my corner. Super convenient and nice workers, with just about everything you could need. Watch that they don't make a mistake at check-out, but they will rectify it if they do.

A larger, fancier supermarket but with the same prices, and it includes a fresh fish market. It's a few blocks away, about a 5 -10 minute walk, across the street from Choice Cafe. If you are here for a longer stay and will be cooking sometimes, it's good to know about it. They also have a lot of prepared foods that you can bring home and eat.

A larger, fancier supermarket but with the same prices, and it includes a fresh fish market. It's a few blocks away, about a 5 -10 minute walk, across the street from Choice Cafe. If you are here for a longer stay and will be cooking sometimes, it's good to know about it. They also have a lot of prepared foods that you can bring home and eat.

It's a college or art, design and architecture, but it is also the largest sculpture park in NYC, and a lovely outdoor campus to walk around. There are certain times when no ID is required and you can walk around and have a look or sit on a bench inside the gates.
