If you're headed from Naalehu to Pahala (or past Pahala) take this mountain road, at least once. The scenery is spectacular and the road was recently repaired so it is now fine with a few potholes.

A scenic drive, that ends in a great swimming hole, and both black and green sand beaches. It is a rugged 6 mile, partly 4-wheel road.

A classic tropical beach that rarely has anyone there. The road (for regular cars) stops about three miles from the beach and for 4x4s you can cut the hike in half.

At the end of Kaohe Rd you can walk down to a beach, for an even better beach take the trail north, there is an outhouse there.
