A buzzy local cafe brimming with healthy goodness. Amazing coffee and great grub. Grab a nourishing bowl for brekkie or a giant-sized crumbly cookie for a treat. Lunchtime doorstop sandwiches are not to be missed! Be warned, the portions are huge!

Vibrant, modern cafe with a clever menu served by the inimitable Josh. Don't expect boring bacon and eggs, do expect quinoa and smoked trout, or chilli avocado with finger lime. It's finger lickin' good!

Busy and buzzy Italian with limited outdoor seating. Pizzas are huge, light and cripsy and prices are reasonable. Enjoy an aperol spritz waiting for pasta, the amazing antipasto plate or, of course, tiramisu desert!

This entire precinct is now a foodie mecca. Bread + Circus where one of the first to arrive and remains the best. The healthy breakfasts are substantial and delicious. Huge wrap around doors open up in summer to a soft breeze and the friendly staff are happy to share their recommendations. Five stars!

Our favourite local restaurant by far, the Continental is a local institution. Offering wallet-friendly finds, the menu ranges from delicious entrees such as oysters, stuffed zucchini flowers and a beautifully rich pate to pasta (go the lamb ragu or prawn orecchiette) to the most tender chicken schnitzel ever. Portions are huge, prices are tiny and the wine list is cleverly curated by co-owner Brett. Oh, and make sure you slip out to the secret back bar, GDR, for a post supper cocktail!

The Grounds should be one every visitors must-see list. It's a glorious green oasis in the the city; an amazing cafe, a plant-filled bar and, at the weekends, a buzzing and vibrant market. It even has its own urban farm where you can pat the pigs and goats!

Drinks & Nightlife

One of the first small bars to pop up in Redfern, Arcadia has become a Sydney institution. Always busy and always fun (even if you can't quite remember how MUCH fun the next morning!), this cool bar should be first on local your 'must visit' list.

It's an art gallery. It's a bar. It's a museum. It's a... well, you really should go see for yourself. The Tit (as it's affectionately known by locals) is probably the most bonkers bar in Sydney. With live music and dead animals (sounds weird, looks good), this is a dangerous spot where you pop in for one, and leave five hours later.

Showcasing local beer brewed by... well, locals, this pub is a local gem. Don't go for cocktails, but stick around for the ginormous selection of Australian craft beers. Oh, and they serve a stonkingly good hangover brekkie burrito with a pretty decent Bloody Mary, should you be in need!
