Most people visit Bodrum without realizing that this is the ancient city of Halicarnassus, and is (well, was) home to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. While there is little left from the impressive mausoleum, there is enough to reconstruct the place in your imagination. Plus, you are already here, you might as well check off "one of the seven wonders of ancient word" from your bucket list.

This national treasure is one of the most remarkable natural sites in Turkey. Once you see it, you will know, why is is called "Pamukkale," literally "cotton castle." The white calcium deposits formed this unusual site over millenia. While you are here, do not forget to visit the ancient pool - you will never find another place where you can swim among the thousands of years old ancient columns. Also nearby is the ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis, with its impressive amphitheater. A true highlight of any visit to Turkey. You can combine Ephesus and Pamukkale on a one-night, two day organized trip from Bodrum. These tours are remarkably inexpensive.
