Great trucker diner within walking distance from my house. Don't let the exterior fool you (look for the pink pig in the sky) The Albanian couple who run this joint with their son are the sweetest, super funny and hustle hard! Everyone I've sent there loves this place! Huge portions, most delicious ham ever. I go with the ham and cheese omelette and I’m full for the day! Pop a squat at the counter and chat with some friendly locals.

PizzaPlex is the best pizza place you can find in the D right here in Southwest. They had people fly in from Italy to certify its authenticity! What?! YES. They use the finest ingredients yet they’re affordable, inclusive and friendly towards the community! It’s a small, low-key spot but a must if you are craving italian cocktails, pizza, dessert or Italian wine in a uniquely Detroit setting. An absolute must.

Authentic Yemen cuisine within walking distance. I’d go with any of their lamb dishes. Everything tastes amazing and healthy. As soon as you turn left at the end of Woodmere (Vernor) you’re going to feel like you’re in the Middle East for sure.

Shout out to the city within the City of Detroit - Hamtramck! Hamtramck used to be home to mainly Polish immigrants and now has quite the Bangladeshi population. They have my favorite lunchtime buffet. Bangladeshi cuisine is very similar to Indian. Yum yum yummm. Butter chicken and mango lassi (DROOLING)!

Say hi to my friend Pat Brown here. This is where the locals hang and the least touristy spot in Corktown. Such a beautiful, chill, historic place. Great for some Irish Whiskey or a good ol' draft beer.

One of thee best art museums in the nation. Hands down. It's enormous and would take a week to see all of our exhibits. Check out the famous Socialist Diego Rivera murals (homage to factory workers and workers worldwide) in the court yard. Breathtaking.

Gorgeous and exotic. An old Ford mansion donated by one of the Ford children to the Hare Krishnas. Go for service on a Sunday and they bask you with fresh flower leis. Dancing and Indian cuisine to boot. This old hidden gem holds a spot dear to my heart. Beautiful gardens in the summer where you can converse with monks outdoors. I hope they bring back the peacocks this summer...

If you're an avid reader like me then this place will not disappoint. 4 glorious stories of used book heaven on Earth. Ah, the free smells! Take one of the oldest elevators in Michigan... they also have antiques and old maps in the back if Mr. King or his very knowledgeable wife are around to let you in the back building. Another spot I hold dear to my heart in the D!

Free, uniquely Detroit outdoor art exhibit. Catch it before it’s completely dismantled! This is a great example of the resilience and scrappiness of Detroit. Although many of the houses have fallen prey to arson, people from all over the world still enjoy blocks of a dilapidated neighborhood turned into a magical, child-like art project.

I’ve travelled a lot and have yet to see another cities farmers market that comes close to ours. HUGE, great deals, local produce surrounded by fun shops and restaurants. Also, Eastern Market is surrounded by colorful street murals. An absolute must especially if you’re in town on a Saturday. Magical and fun!
