Austria's biggest beer tavern At the foot of the Mönchsberg, in Salzburg’s Mülln neighbourhood, beer has been brewed and then enjoyed amongst social circles since 1621. With an indoor seating area of 5.000 m2, the Bräustübl tavern and Brewery is Austria’s largest and boasts a further 1400 seats in the outdoor beer garden. The beer is drawn from wooden barrels and served in stone jugs, or steins. Regional and traditional dishes can be bought directly from various food stands in the "Schmankerlgang" (Delicatessen arcade) which is set up to resemble a traditional marketplace. The Bräustübl is a well-respected traditional meeting place – a piece of living history in the world heritage centre

Since 1906 The weekly market for regional produce, the ‘Schrannenmarkt’, is a Salzburg institution. It has been held in front of St. Andräkirche every Thursday since 1906. It is one of Austria’s largest markets, along with the Naschmarkt and Brunnenmarkt in Vienna, and offers regional produce and local specialities at a fair price from 5:00am. Depending on the time of year the around 190-stall market also offers Advent wreaths or catkin bouquets. The stall holders all come from Salzburg, Upper Austria and areas of Bavaria just over the border, so top quality, fresh produce can be guaranteed.
