Here are some places located close to the cabin that I like and recommend.
Donuts and kolaches are very good. This place is right across the road from the cabin. You can walk there.

One of my favorite places in Sattler. Their menu has different but tasty food items. Cute, quaint, good food, mimosa buckets, serves breakfast/dinner/lunch. Inside and outside seating. If there is a wait, they will take your phone number down and call you when your table is ready. The cabin is only 2 minutes from this place, so I usually go back to the cabin to wait for my table to be ready.

You can see this place from the cabin (by the stop light). I've never had bad BBQ here. Just walk up to the outside window and order. I usually grab a quick lunch here. The chopped BBQ sandwich rocks.

One block away from the cabin. Take a right out of our parking lot and stay on the back street. This is a clean grocery market with good selection. Since the cabin isn't stocked with groceries, I recommend my visitors shop here for convenience.

This is the perfect place for "out of the world" Italian food. It's a white table cloth type place (more upscale but not stuffy). I take my family there for special celebrations, but you really don't have to wait for a celebration to visit this place. Amazing food, service, and drink/wine list. Call ahead or make reservations. This place is popular.

2.8 miles from the cabin. The locals LOVE this place. This is a dive bar but has a ton to offer. They have a food menu with daily specials. There are pool tables and Golden Tee machine. Behind the front building is a barn that contains another bar with live entertainment (bands, comedy night, other themed events). Call to see what is going on.

This place has the best hamburgers in the area. It's right by the river/horseshoe. I just discovered this local gem. Call your order in ahead of time or walk up to the window. They have picnic tables outside so it's a popular place to eat after floating the river. The only negative thing is they are only open 11am- 3pm on Saturdays. This means by the time I get off the river, starving and full of alcohol, they are closing. Hours of operation: Sun they are closed, Saturday: 11am-3pm, Mon-Friday: 11am- 7pm

Gruene
This is a full day of fun and exploring. From the cabin, follow River Road till it ends, and you will find yourself 5 minutes from Historic Gruene. Sip, shop, and listen to live music! The famous Gruene Hall is rich with charm. It draws tourist from all over. There are antique shops galore, a General Store, and little shops/boutiques to explore. Most offer wine/beer while you shop! No wonder this is a happy place. LOL.
Gristmill is located beneath Gruene's landmark water tower, in the ruins of an 1878 cotton gin, overlooking the Guadalupe River. They turned this old cotton gin into a thriving multi-level restaurant called The Gristmill. It has great food. There is a souvenir shop and a beer garden to explore while you wait for your table. Might call ahead to check on the wait time cause this is a super popular spot.

The oldest dance hall in Texas is in Gruene! This famous Gruene Hall was build in the early 19th century. You will find live music here daily. I love looking at the pictures of all the famous country artists who have played there. People come here just to take a look at this place. It has an old wooden dance floor and a saloon style cash-only bar inside. Check the schedule if you are interested in going to a concert. Concerts are usually a night thing and they close the hall to the general public a few hours before show time.

This is a beautiful drive! River Road starts in Sattler at the cabin and ends 5 minutes from Historic Gruene. My husband and I usually take the doors off the jeep and bar hop down this road. A few of our favorite dive bars are Lonestar Float House, Koozies, and Bubba's Big Deck. You will drive over all the river crossings, find other hot spots to put in and float the river, and see several campgrounds along this road. There are several tube rental places along this road (Lonestar Float House rents tubes and has a shuttle service).

On River Road, this is one of the campgrounds that offer a day pass (per, car). You can set up your chairs right along the river. There is a spring for the little ones to float (when it's not dry), a cliff to jump off of, and a fun rapid you can go over. I think you can rent tubes here as well. It has public bathrooms and a general store if you need snacks or drinks. They are a camp ground for cabins, RVs, and tents but several people just drive their cars here and spend the day along the rivers edge.

A “dam good” experience! The walkway across the top of the massive dam offers spectacular views of the lake. Almost a mile long, it’s an easy flat walk which can be enjoyed by old and young alike. There’s also a Park for picnicking, trails down to the lakeshore, and an interpretive kiosk detailing the construction of the dam. There’s no charge to access the dam or park
