Byron institution! Pizza with wholemeal bases in true Byron style! (GF available). Crazy creations, eg. Mullumbimby Madness, Cruel Sea, etc! After being a fun and surf memorabilia-filled restaurant in various spots in Byron Bay for over 30 years, it has recently shrunk to more of a take-away/home delivery place in yet another location. Also delivers to Melaleuca House! Ph 6685 6029

Iconic!!! Spectacular views of Watego's Beach, fab food, relaxed atmosphere and chilled, professional wait staff. I prefer lunch or sunset to take advantage of the stunning location. In August 2019, "The Australian" (newspaper) named Rae's the hottest regional restaurant in the entire country. Now also with a cool cocktail & oyster bar downstairs ("Cellar Bar"). Ph 66855 366

'The Rails' is an old Byron 'drinking' institution, frequented by locals and tourists alike. 20 brews on tap. Casual food available from a tiny kitchen, including a tasty, smoked kangaroo burger. Live music every night of the week. Located next to old railway station in town, hence the name. Oh and there is a pool table outside (undercover).

- Vegan/Vegetarian - Folk is a small, funky daytime café where all products are made in house with a commitment to vegetarian & plant-based eating. Folk advertises as: Organic, local, ethical. Super food, it is super enjoyable to sit there and it has super friendly owners ;-). Has featured in Vogue, Monocle, Marie Claire, Gourmet Traveller and in many more. It is a bit out of town (1/399 Ewingsdale Rd) but everyone seems to find it!

- Vegan/Vegetarian - No Bones Restaurant (11 Fletcher St) offers ‘plant-powered Tapas and Cocktails’. Casual indoor and outdoor seating. Friendliest service. Amazing food. Good vibe. Incredible salt & pepper ‘calamari’, only that they are made from a root! Our other dishes were fantastic as well. Good wines, most of them organic!

- Vegan/vegetarian - Yulli’s (3/8 Byron St) describes itself as ‘Modern Asian Restaurant complimenting our Yulli’s beer range’. Fairly new and getting rave reviews. Two of their own Yulli’s beers are on tap. Noisy inside if the small restaurant is full due to concrete flooring and other hard surfaces. Some outdoor seating available.

Conseils sur la ville

À ne pas manquer
What not to miss when in Byron!
The many stunning beaches: Also look for more secluded beaches, e.g. at Broken Head. Walk the scenic lighthouse loop along spectacular beaches and through littoral rainforest. Take a 30min guided lighthouse tour, conducted daily by volunteers. Visit the most easterly point on mainland Australia, ca 300 m from the lighthouse. Farmers Markets every Thursday morning at Cavanbah Centre (1.5km away, on Ewingsdale Rd) for local produce, breakfast, live music. Between 7am and 11 am! Best to arrive early. Sunday Markets! In Byron Bay on the 1st Sunday of the month (Butler St Reserve), in Bangalow on the 4th Sunday (Show Grounds). Best between 8am and 1pm. Renowned festivals, e.g. Blues Festival at Easter, Splendour in the Grass at the end of July, Byron Bay Writers' Festival in early August, Bangalow Music Festival (classical music) mid August, etc. Watch humpback whales migrate from May to November. Best from high vantage points such as the Byron Bay Lighthouse precinct OR from sea (by boat) with one of the local whale watching tours. Snorkel or scuba dive in the stunning Julian Rocks Marine National Park with one of the local diving operators. Take a kayaking trip with a local operator and spot dolphins, turtles, etc. Learn to surf or improve your surf skills! Individual coaching at the famous ‘Pass’ beach, eg by 'Rusty Miller Surf'. If you are an early riser: Watch the sunrise from the most easterly point on Australia's mainland (located 300m from the lighthouse) OR from a hot air balloon! A balloon ride e.g. with 'Balloon Aloft Byron Bay' also includes a gourmet breakfast at the fab 'Three Blue Ducks' restaurant at 'The Farm'! Champagne breakfast or VIP flights for 2 are also available on request. Visit the creative, fab Arts & Industry Estate (just across Ewingsdale Road) with edgy shops, factories, cafes, restaurants, etc. Walk or take our bikes to the hip Stone & Wood Brewery (1km), located in an even funkier building since the start of 2019. Choose your own beers in a tasting paddle or book well ahead for a guided Brewery Tour. Small plates of edgy, cool food can also be purchased there. Visit the beautiful hinterland, e.g. •Stunning Protesters Falls – but not during a draught 😉 •Colourful Nimbin, where the rainbow and hippie movement started •etc. Visit neighbouring villages, such as •Bangalow (10 min drive south/inland) with its beautiful heritage main street, eclectic shops and hip cafes/dining. •Brunswick Heads (20min drive north), a seaside village which also sports a beautiful river frontage, the beautifully restored Brunswick Hotel (with tree-d beer garden), cool shops and great food & dining options. Currently stars as location in the TV series ‘Sea Change’. •Mullumbimby (15 min drive north-west/inland) is probably the sleepiest of the 3. It has a few funky shops, a gallery, the cool ‘Flock’ café-restaurant with a big and beautiful garden seating area and other great food options, such as ‘The Rock n Roll Coffee Company’. And so much more!!! Just ask me 😊
