Founded as the guardian of Edo Castle (now the Imperial Palace), this shrine’s main hall was destroyed in the air raids of 1945 and rebuilt in 1958. Recent redevelopment has given the shrine a modern aura, but its history stretches back before the 15th century. The rear approach features a tunnel of orange gates akin to Fushimi-Inari Shrine in Kyoto.
