The Mariinskiy Theatre is a historic theater of opera and ballet in Saint Petersburg. It opened in 1860 & became the pre-eminent music theater of late 19th century Russia, where many of the stage masterpieces of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov received their premieres. Through most of the Soviet era, it was known as the Kirov Theater. Today, the Mariinskiy Theater is home to the Mariinskiy Ballet, Mariinskiy Opera and Mariinskiy Orchestra.

There is two Mariinsky theatres and then the concert hall nearby. This is quite new venue, opened 2007, and therefore place is modern in all aspects. I can consider this hall one of the best in acoustics I have ever heard.
