Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park 63 miles Kilauea, one of the world’s most active and largest shield volcanoes, is an ever-present reminder of the incredible forces of nature that are constantly at work on the Big Island of Hawaii. You can hike, picnic, walk through lava tubes and sightsee… Devastation Trail. This easy, wheelchair- and stroller-accessible trail 1.0 hour. Trail begins: Either at the Pu'upua'i parking lot or the Devastation Trail parking lot, both off of Crater Rim Drive. Crater Rim Trail. The popular Crater Rim Trail spans from Uēkahuna Kipukapuaulu Loop Trail. An easy hike through rare Hawaiian plants Kīlauea Iki. Hiking through the floor of a solidified lava lake Mauna Kea forest Reserve 90 Miles, 2 hours Mauna Kea is the tallest sea mountain in the world, offering unprecedented views of the heavens above. Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park 18 miles North on Hwy 11 is an important Hawaiian ceremonial site bounded on its southern and eastern sides by a massive L-shaped wall, known as the Pā Puʻuhonua (Great Wall), and on its northern and western sides by the ocean. In addition to the Great Wall, within the Puʻuhonua are several other important ceremonial structures including the Hale o Keawe, ʻĀleʻaleʻa Heiau, and the Ancient Heiau.
