Many boutique concept stores are located in the Gerard Doustraat (also check out Cotton Cake on the Eerste van der Helststraat), it is not as busy as the famous 9 straatjes & to me just as nice: a true local tip.

Gerard Douplein & the parallel street Eerste van der Helststraat contain a large number of cafes with terraces (so many, just check which ones you like: walk by the Sarphatipark 5min from the apartment), where everyone will be out as soon as there is a bit of sun for coffee or wine. After the sun goes down, the party continues on until 3am in the weekends.
