A true family restaurant run by the two sons Cesare and Federico, along with their parents, Piero and Vezia. Established for over 25 years, this popular restaurant is popular with both locals and holiday makers who have returned year after year. Our family has visited this restaurant for over 15 years, we have made many friends here and we never tire of the delicious dishes served. English speaking and only go if you are hungry! There is no menu but delicious food cooked fresh daily which never disappoints. ideal for vegetarians. I would suggest calling to book in advance. Great for large groups. Places to visit around Castiglione in Teverina

Within a 30 minute drive there is so much to see.
By charging visitors to enter its crumbling walls, the medieval town of Civita di Bagnoregio has turned the threat of destruction to its advantage As leaders of some of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations ponder recent anti-tourism protests, they should perhaps take inspiration from the mayor of Civita di Bagnoregio, a hamlet perched on a plateau of volcanic rock surrounded by steep ravines in Italy’s Lazio region. Francesco Bigiotti, who also manages the main town of Bagnoregio, has rushed in where other mayors fear to tread – anyone wanting to cross the footbridge to visit his medieval village must pay. Civita, a tiny settlement about 74 miles north of Rome, founded by the Etruscans more than 2,500 years ago, is the only town in Italy to charge an entrance fee. A €1.50 toll was introduced in 2013 and increased at the beginning of August. Visitors are now required to pay €3 on weekdays and €5 on Sundays or public holidays. For a few euros more they can get a private tour of the village – home to a year-round population of just 10 people – or a bruschetta and a glass of wine. Especially popular with chinese visitors, up to 50,000 visitors cross the bridge on holiday weekends on foot. We highly recommend a visit.... Traditional to eat some bruschetta and drink local wine when you arrive

This town is set just 10 km from Castiglione in Teverina. This charming village is very deceiving. It has a selection of 8 fine restaurants many of which are listed in the restaurant section of this guidebook. There are also two excellent butchers, many travel up from Rome to buy locally produced meat here. We also recommend Bar Puff in the park for coffee or aperatifs where its owner Monia will give you a warm welcome. This town with under 900 residents is a friendly village, it has retained its charm despite hoards of tourists visiting Civita di Bagnoregio( the next village along) Lubriano offers unparralled views of Civita

Lake Bolsena Rarely overcrowded, and abundant with beautiful black volcanic sands, it is the largest volcanic lake in Europe, with a circumference of 43km, and an incredible history. Lake Bolsena is much larger than you would expect, created f following the eruption of the Vulsini volcano (active until 104 BC) There are two islands, Bisentina and Martana, in the southern part of the lake which were formed by underwater eruptions following the collapse that created the caldera. There are boats you can take from Bolsena to the other side of the lake, Capodimonte where there are water sports available. Lots of restaurants and bars as you drive around the lake. If you visit one of the restaurants, ask for Coregone (fish caught that day in the lake) and salad with some local white wine!

Orvieto is a small city perched on a rock cliff. It is a city favoured by international tourism, with its heritage of art and its fascinating cultural events throughout the year including Umbria Jazz at Christmas, it is one of Italy's outstanding attractions. We would recommend visiting the Duomo di Orvieto, dating from 1290, it has a mosaic facade and houses a marble Pietà sculpture. Incredible frescos can be seen inside the Duomo. The second must see attraction at Orvieto is the Pozzo di San Patrizio. It is a 16th-century well shaft with a double spiral staircase. An underground cave network attests to the city’s Etruscan roots. Artifacts from this era, like ceramics and bronze items, are on view at the National Archaeological Museum. Great selection of restaurants and bars as you wander the narrow streets, along with some wonderful shops on Corso Cavour. You can access Orvieto by car or by the funicolare (just outside Orvieto train station)

Viterbo is the largest town in northern Lazio and is a much-overlooked gem with a handsome medieval centre and a relaxed, provincial atmosphere. Founded by the Etruscans and later taken over by the Romans, it developed into an important medieval centre. Its about 30 mins drive from the property Excellent shops particularly if you are looking for leather goods. Good selection of restaurants serving local dishes

A fabulous spa facility at the Terme baths at Viterbo. The remains of Roman baths, the healing waters and mud is still recognised for its healing qualities. In medieval times, the baths were a favourite destination for many Popes, hence the name. Would highly recommend a visit. About 30 min drive from the property You can either visit the baths alone for their healing qualities or alternatively visit the Spa with a wide selection of face and body treatments. Closed on Tuesday

A must see if you are in the area! the park of the monsters Its set in an italian garden/park which is filled with bizarre and fascinating sculptures for which only the accompanying inscriptions provide any explanations. Strange pieces such as a war elephant, a monstrous fish head, a giant tearing another giant in half are just a few of those you will see. My kids loved visiting this as kids as still do today! If you fancy a real treat but don't want to drive too far, this is ideal. This restaurant has been established for over 40 years and used to be located in Civita di Bagnoregio but due to landslides in recent years, this popular restaurant has relocated to the Monaldesco Palace at Lubriano. A beautiful setting, delicious food, beautifully presented, never evern disappoints English is spoken here and we recommend booking. They host weddings so always double check for weekend bookings.

My favourite Pizza restaurants and takeaways

All very close to Castiglione in Teverina, pizza is always served at night in restaurants, never during the day. For day time slices of pizza, try the bakers. Each of the restaurants we list, also serve take away pizza if you want to bring it home!
All the locals have take away pizza from Jovez, cooked in their wood fired oven. Always fresh and made to order. Open evenings only You can call in advance to order your pizza. English spoken Established family restaurant

Castiglione in Teverina is a springboard to visit so much in both Umbria and Lazio, sitting as it does right on the border of both Lazio and Umbria. If you fancy a day out, here are some suggestions
Another seaside resort about an hours drive from your property. Our first choice woudl be Pescia Romana but if you cannot get there, try nearby Montalto di Castro Facilities on the beach include restaurants, paid sunbeds, bar and play areas for kids

Seaside resort that I have visited often. There is sufficient parking when you arrive You can either choose a paid beach where you pay for your umbrella and sunbeds or alteranatively see out the "free beach" always used by Italian. Facilities on the beach include clean showers and changing rooms, play area for children, restaurants and bar area

A personal favourite as my sister in law was married here 10 years ago, wonderful memories of a great day! Gubbio is known as one of the most fascinating Umbrian cities. So much to see starting with the Cathedral which is the main church in Gubbio. Inside you can see works from artists of the sixteenth century. You will also see the panoramic piazza Grande which hosts the Consuls Palace, built in Gothic style. Inside this you will see the minicipal museum, the big bell and the seven Eugubine Tables which date back to the second and third centuries B.C. Its quite a drive from Castiglione in Teverina, over an hour but I firmly believe its worth the visit. Maybe take in Perugia en route!
