Mexican "tacos de cabeza" or beef head tacos and/or stew. One of my favorite taco joints in the city. They also have tacos dorados (deep-fried tacos) with beef short rib. I recommend getting tacos de surtido (a mixture of meat from the entire head).

This is the closest source of tacos to the house. One thing I have to say is that it is very hit and miss. Sometimes it is great and sometimes the food and service is terrible, so be warned. My favorite meat is "arrachera" (marinated steak), and my favorite dish here is the vampiro de arrachera (marinated steak on a hard tortilla with cheese). They have a full bar and are open 24 hours a day.

Other restaurants and places

This is a hipster mezcal bar in the hipster neighborhood of the city. I really don't like mezcal myself so can't really recommend drinks, but if you're looking for a fancier, more laid back bar vibe (as opposed to the blatant and somewhat oppressive nightclubs on the boardwalk), this might be a place to check out.

Beaches in La Paz and between La Paz and Los Cabos, and in Los Cabos

These are beaches I like. Some are in La Paz, others are in San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, or in between.
This is a tiny beach with a restaurant about halfway to Balandra beach in La Paz. You can get here by bus, and it has the advantage that it is very calm, usually quiet on weekdays, and has a restaurant which serves seafood and beer. Usually quieter than the main beach of Balandra.

This is the main public beach in La Paz. You can get here by bus (from the main terminal), but because it's quite close I would recommend either taking an Uber or riding a bike here (it takes about 20 minutes on bike from the house to the beach). You can also walk, and it will take about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes, but it's a very beautiful walk along the water the whole way. This beach has great infrastructure and is a great place to go if you don't have time to go far but want to enjoy the water.

This is a hard beach to get to. If you're interested in going, asked me for more detailed instructions. You take a road off of the libramiento road that circles La Paz near the power plant. This beach has a gate and is somewhat "private", but if you pay the guards (about 50 to 100 pesos), they will let you through. There is no cell phone reception here and you need a car to get here. The beach is deep and has more waves than the others in the city (it is on the other side of the small peninsula), but has very clean water and a small coral reef if you swim out a bit.

The classic beach that everybody visits in La Paz. you can either bus, take an Uber, or drive here. Note that the main beach is very busy these days; you can either walk one beach to the right for a much calmer beach, or you can drive to Tecolote beach right beside it and walk for 30 minutes to get to the 3rd beach of Balandra (look on Google Earth and follow the blocked off car road) which will be totally free of people. Watch out for stingrays! Especially during the summer!

This is one of the main beaches along the East Cape Rd. (near Cabo Pulmo - closer to San Jose than La Paz). It's a nice place because it's within Cabo Pulmo Marine Park and there is a coral reef right off of the beach, so you don't need to hire a boat tour to go snorkeling if you have equipment (they also rent equipment there). They charge to enter the beach (approximately 50 pesos per person).

This place is quite bizarre, and the only way you will be able to tell you there is by a PVC tube sticking out of the beach and the formations of rocks that people have made into pools along the shoreline. Basically, the beach is hot like a hot spring, and if you accommodate the rocks properly, you can make hot spring pools on the beach. Note that you have to be here at the right tide to be able to do this. This is the only Hot Spring of its type I've seen anywhere in the world.

There are a bunch of beaches between the town of La Ventana and where this beach appears on Google maps. They are all super beautiful and will probably have very few other humans. Just be careful that you don't drive on loose sand, because if you get stuck you're going to have to walk for a long time, as there is often no cell phone service.

Everyone offers you a tour here when you are in La Paz and it is well worth it. The typical tour takes you to a bunch of different places on the island and is very nice, although it is getting busier. You can also talk to tour agencies to arrange private transportation or a private tour if you want to get away from the busier parts of the island. I really like Bonanza beach, which is on the opposite side of the island from the tours, and is a huge beach with a ton of coral reef in front of it. However, a private tour will be $$$$$

This is one of the main public beaches in Cabo San Lucas, and is right beside the Marina, although you have to walk around the marina to get there. It is a very, very beautiful beach which is similar to lovers Beach, but you don't need to take a boat to get there, and it is usually even less busy than lovers beach, unless you're there on the weekend or in the evening, which is when it fills up with locals. You can also (if you are a good swimmer) swim along the side of the peninsula from this beach to get to pelican rock (a famous snorkeling spot that all the tours go to) or even to lovers Beach (if you're going that far, you have to be very careful to watch out for boats).

This is one of the high-end but popular public beaches in San Jose del Cabo. This beach is right beside the Marquis's hotel in the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose. It is easy to access because it is right on the highway (take the ruta del desierto bus) and is a super beautiful beach, and there's usually nobody here. If you're driving, there's only a few parking spots on the sand, but the beach is almost never full unless it's Sunday or holy week. Medano Beach is the classic party beach in Cabo San Lucas, but it also happens to be a very beautiful beach. Public access to the beach is available via a parking lot that you can see on Google. You can also access via the Riu hotel further away from the chaos, but you're going to have to walk through the hotel and tell the staff what you're doing (depends what mood they're in). There are also tons of bars on this beach if you feel like drinking, but I think it's better to walk a little away from the chaos and just enjoy the beauty of it all.
