Trips and beaches around Quinta da Periquita

Quinta da Periquita is situated in the natural park Serra da Arrabida. Our villa is situated in the hamlet ‘Aldeia da Portela’. In the neighbouring hamlet Aldeia da Piedade you will find basic services as a little shop, a café, the bus stop and recycling containers. The nearest town is Vila Nogueira de Azeitão (5km north east). Besides supermarkets and petrol stations, there are is a broad selection of restaurants, wine cellars and monuments to visit. Sesimbra (8 km south west) has lovely beaches and all touristic amenities you will need, as well as supermarkets. You can reach the bigger fisher town Setubal through the beautiful coastal road in Serra da Arrábida.
A beautiful trip can be made from Quinta da Periquita through the Serra de Arrabida. You can extend the route to Setubal. The route: Aldeia da Portela – Casais da Serra – Convento da Arrábida – 7th Battaria (really worth a visit!) - Rasca Beach - Figueirinha beach - Galapagos Beach – Portinho and back home. You can find this route on the following link: https://goo.gl/maps/3H9Qg7Z9nZHuW1VX7 Please be aware that the low coastal road may be closed during high season. The high road is always open. A good Dutch website on the Serra: www.portugal-vakantie.info/top10/natuurpark-serra-da-arrabida.html. Beautiful walks can be made in Serra da Arrabida. The Serra do Risco, the hills you see from the terrace of Quinta da Periquita, has some nice hiking paths, from moderate to difficult. Park your car along the road near coordinates 38.46014, -9,01926. The area around the campsite of Picheleiros is very beautiful as well. Around Cabo Espichel, you will find hiking paths with amazing views over the ocean. More information can found online, for example on the website www.vagamundos.pt.

Cascais is known to as “The Town of Kings and Fishes” because it was a small fishing town that found favour with the 19th century Portuguese nobility, who came here for their summer retreat. Thanks to this fact, the town is uncommonly rich in beautiful architecture, free museums and carefully maintained parks, on top of which, it’s surrounded by a varied coastline of impressive cliffs and beautiful, intimate sandy coves.
