For Shopaholics - there are 2 great areas, first stop the Brighton Lanes which has some of the oldest properties in the city, with posh restaurants, ancient pubs, designer shops, jewellers and the new Harringtons Lane which was added in 2019 after being lost for decades. For a more funky, Boho vibe and a bargain there's the North Laines which is with a saturday street market, cheap cafes, pubs and the Komedia and Forge comedy venues. Happy Shopping!

It's been hit by shipping, damaged in storms, burnt down by arsonists (twice) - but still it remains one of Brighton's most Iconic landmarks. It was one of the only Grade 1 listed piers in the country and could have been a unique historic centre and theatre, but a combination of council errors - like gifting it to a charity for £1 that had no money, then lack of protection - within weeks of eventually receiving lottery funding it was burnt down! Sadly the Hippodrome Theatre is facing a similar lack of protection issues.

Only a short 20 min drive out of town or 45 min cycle (best route goes pass West Hove Golf course as a bit less hilly!) for spectacular views across of the coast and inland. Walkers can access the South Downs Way from here, and there's the Devil's Dyke pub if your thirsty and desperate, or there is the Shepard and Dog down the North side of the Downs which has a lot more character.

Recently opened last year this large restaurant has become a firm Brighton fav and a good place to celeb spot. Attentive not too formal service and reasonable prices for the quality of fare they offer. Nice wines too! 25 min walk or short bus ride. TIP: If you're there for lunch ask for their 'Set Menu' which they sometimes 'forget' to offer customers! It runs until 6.30 with a restricted choice but you get 2 courses for around £16, or 3 for £21 which is a bargain. Enjoy!

Situated on the seafront directly straight down from us, Marrocco's has been here since the sixties and no trip to Hove is complete without a visit to this authentic Italian restaurant to sample its amazing ice creams which are made on the premises. There's load of flavours to choose from with at least one 'odd ball' one every season. There is normally a queue for ice creams but trust me, it's worth it! They also do takeaway pizzas for the beach and the restaurant itself has great for fish, pasta and pizza dishes at reasonable prices.

It's has benches on the deck to enjoy various food and drink options on offer (including craft beer!) and cute beach hut style outlets, there is also a walk in Lodge area at the back but the roof terrace and main restaurant tables need to be booked well in advance, but be warned from our experince the table service is really really slow whenever we've been there so can't reccommend dining there at the moment!

At the top of the road is our fav bakery Real Patisserie, there is also Gails Bakery on the corner of George Street, but more pricey. There's all the usual chain shops, Boots, WH Smiths etc , plus a lot of charity shops to hunt down a bargain. Turn left a little way up and that cuts you thru to a the big Tesco. At the top of the street is a fruit and veg stall. Turn left and a 100m away is Harriet's of Hove eco store for refills of lots of things without the plastic! At the bottom of our road over the crossing is another good bakery Sourdough, that do great pies and croissants.
George St, Brighton and Hove, Hove BN3, Royaume-Uni
Whilst Tesco is conveniently on your doorstep, if you want to treat yourselves there's a big Waitrose just North of us, 5 mins in the car or a 20 min walk with an extensive cheese counter, fish counter, butchers etc. with easy parking

Sea Frets

We occasionally get a spooky sea mist that rolls in, known locally as a 'sea fret', which can get stuck between the coast and the South Downs which surrounds the city. If this happens its always worth checking the local weather forecast inland, e.g Hayward Heath to see if its just localised as it may be really sunny elsewhere!

Beach BBQs

BBQs are banned where there are nearby houses/flats and there are beach patrols to enforce this, so that covers the area directly south of us, but if you go a few hundred metres either way BBQs are allowed there, but DISPOSABLE BBQ ARE BANNED - with a £100 fine if caught using one! We do not allow BBQs on the patio.

Litter

There are Environmental Enforcement officers, and I've seen a guy fined for dropping a cigarette butt, so please dispose of litter in bins provided to keep our city clean.
