Vesuvio National Park

Vesuvio is an active volcano that rises above the Bay of Naples. It is one of the symbols of the city and is the site of one of the most famous volcanic eruptions in history. It’s quite closed to Pompei so you can combine the two sites visit. Wear comfortable shoes. You‘ll be climbing so, flip-flops, sandals or ballerinas are not the best choices. First, your feet might get really tired and the second, you might slip and even hurt yourself! The slopes of Vesuvius are covered with vineyards and orchards, and the wine grown there is known as Lacrima Christi so once you reach the top have a tost with a glass of Lacrima Christi!!! :) Without any doubt it’s worth of mention also the cultivation of Piennolo Cherry Tomato on the slopes of Vesuvius, it has ancient roots. Vesuvius Cherry Tomato is appreciated both when it is sold fresh after harvesting on the local markets and in its characteristic conservation hung-shape - "al piennolo" -, so if you have the chance to try them do not hesitate!. Walk around the cobbled maze of the Centro Storico and Quartieri Spagnoli and you’ll find a likeness of Sophia Loren pouting across Via San Liborio; a bemused Totò, the much-loved Neapolitan actor and comedian, looking down Spaccanapoli; and, everywhere, a jubilant, defiant Diego Maradona. Artists like Zed 1, Blu, Alice Pasquini, Roxy in the Box and Cyop & Kaf have added an extra layer to the city’s celebrated assortment of decorative and architectural styles. On Piazza dei Girolamini, a Banksy piece, Madonna with a Pistol, is now officially protected by the city, after an earlier work by the British artist was covered in scribbled tags.
