Cozy 21+ beer bar with about 10 taps (always 1 cider) and a friendly, knowledgeable staff who love to talk beer. They allow outside food, so you can grab a bite at the food carts across the street and bring it with you. Enjoy the spacious back patio area or cozy up inside the bar, play some shut-the-box, and make friends with the regulars.

There are a lot of good Mexican spots in North Portland and everyone has their loyalty... but this is our favorite spot. Carnitas burrito and All Meat burrito are our top picks.

German food and beer in a spot with a nice patio and views of the St. Johns Bridge and Forest Park. Pretzel fondue with a smoked sausage paired with an Occidental Dunkel beer is a rainy day go-to.

Inside Marie’s, a pretty standard St Johns 21+ dive bar, you can grab some of the best Soul Food in Portland. Try the fried chicken, or the catfish, or the brisket, or the collard greens, or the yams, or the cheesesteak... it’s all so good.

Cute, clean coffee shop serving Coava coffee and pastries from local Dos Hermanos bakery. You can also grab a simple breakfast sandwich or yogurt bowl. It’s usually quiet if you want a place to work and the coffee is (in our opinion) the best in St Johns.

This is the “fancy” bar for St Johns, with rotating craft cocktails and build-your-own-bruschetta options. The brunch is also solid and there’s a bocce court on the back patio.

Cozy coffee shop serving coffee from Proud Mary, Townshend’s Tea, and in-house baked goods – like amazing muffins and cinnamon rolls and they always have GF options. In the summer they also make popsicles which go great with a cold brew.

Just to the right of the bar at Stormbreaker Brewing (also a great spot), you can try your hand at axe throwing. They only take groups of 5+ and you have to make a reservation, but it’s sure to be a memorable experience.
