Another old bottega where you can have a good coffee, a pastry and on Sunday morning also brunch. The shop is old school and in a great part of the historical centre.

Pietro Romanengo’s history began in Genoa in 1780 when Antonio Maria Romanego opened a colonial spice shop in Via della Maddalena. Antonio Maria Romanengo, born in Voltaggio in 1751 had two sons, both of them, Stefano and Francesco, continued their father’s business. Whilst keeping the same shop they dedicated the production to candied fruits and dragees, according to the old Genoese traditional manufacturing and they also began producing the “new” French confectionery and chocolates.

The two brothers parted in two separate businesses and Stefano kept the two shops and the factory in Piazza Campetto.
In 1850 Stefano Romanengo left the business to his son Pietro. In the meantime, in 1805, the Genoa Chamber of Commerce and Crafts was founded, and Pietro, who was already working with his father, registered the business with the Chamber of Commerce in 1829. Thus the name “Pietro Romanengo fu Stefano” was born, Pietro chose the name to remember his father on the shop’s sign, the name is still the same to this day, together with the logo, a dove with an olive branch (a symbol of peace in the wake of the Napoleonic wars) He also introduced the company’s blue paper packaging which was once used to wrap sugar cones.

In questo locale di vico Superiore del Ferro, Giuseppe Armando Profumo aprì la sua prima pasticceria in centro, sulla direttiva naturale che univa il porto ( dal quale arrivavano le materie prime ) con la collina di Castelletto, zona residenziale della borghesia.
Quando il figlio Mario rilevò la vicina pasticceria Villa, questo divenne il naturale magazzino della stessa, fino al 2004, quando il locale ebbe bisogno di ristrutturazione.
Durante i lavori riaffiorarono le memorie affettive e si decise di riportarlo locale di vendita su strada.
L'esperienza maturata in pasticceria accelerò il sapere dei gelati ed in poco tempo si aprì l'attuale scommessa commerciale, vinta nonostante gli scetticismi di molti sull'ubicazione.
La gelateria è aperta dal Martedì al Sabato dalle 12,00 alle 19,30 con orario continuato.

Biancheria, teli, tovaglie, tessuti per camicie, lenzuola, coperte, copriletti, plaid, accappatoi, spugne per il bagno e mezzeri genovesi originali: tutto è colore e cura per i dettagli, con la massima attenzione alla qualità.
Molto più di un negozio di tessuti: da Rivara, l'atmosfera ha la leggiadria del lino d'Irlanda, il calore del cachemire, la cura dei dettagli del macramè. Una storia che dura da più di duecento anni, una conduzione familiare che intreccia cinque generazioni come delicati fili delle camicie Oxford.
Tra gli arredi originali ottocenteschi, i tessuti al metraggio vengono poggiati sul lungo bancone in noce e misurati con gli antichi metri che riportano numerosi timbri, secondo la pratica ormai in disuso del controllo comunale.

The number and magnificence of these gave rise to a peculiar aristocratic residential system, formalised in 1576 by a Decree of the Senate that issued an official list of the dwellings (List of Public Lodgings, also known as Rolli), recognising their unique value. The same decree compelled the owners of the homes to take turns in hosting state visits, in the absence of a royal palace. Host dwellings were chosen in accordance with the importance of the visiting guest: the higher the guest's noble rank, the more sumptuous the mansion that was required and the wealthier the family given the honour - and indeed the burden - of welcoming them.
The area featured on the UNESCO list also extends to the part of the historic centre that runs through Via Lomellini, Piazza Fossatello and Via San Luca to Piazza Banchi, the mercantile heart of the old town: along this stretch lie some of the most important examples of the Palazzi dei Rolli, woven in the modern age into the mediaeval fabric of the city.
To this day, the Palazzi dei Rolli still partly belong to private owners, while some of the buildings today house banks or offices.
The best way to experience the allure of some of these dwellings up close is to take one of the guided tours organised by the city.
