Beaches and sightseeing

Going to Saint Joe, Michigan? Peggy's first date with Ray was a trip to Silver Beach. They loved to eat outside and enjoy the view at Schu's, shop the many village shops and enjoy all the fun at Silver Beach. Going to Chesterton? The sunset at Indiana Dunes State Park in Chesterton can't be beat and the beach there is pretty nice too! You can see all the way to Chicago from here. Going to New Buffalo? We like to stop at Bud & Elsie's gas station, get ice cream at Oinks Dutch Treat or Redamak's, and eat and get souvenirs at the Stray Dog Bar and Grill.
Going to Lake Michigan, or the "Third Coast" is like visiting a freshwater ocean. You can enjoy the water without fear of dangerous ocean predators the waves are fun and the views are spectacular! Depending on which beach or town you pick, It takes 45 minutes to an hour to get to public beaches at Michigan City or Chesterton, IN, or New Buffalo or St. Joe Michigan. These towns have many fun shops and restaurants as well as beaches. Warren Dunes State Park, in Sawyer, Michigan is 45 minutes away and is just purely beach and sand dunes with Tower Hill being a fun local attraction and a challenge to climb!

Museum

The History Museum in South Bend is located behind the Oliver Mansion known as Copshaholm which itself is a house museum that I love to visit every few years.
A knowledgeable docent will guide you on a tour of lovely Copshaholm, one of the finest and most well-preserved house museums in the country. Built and lived in only by the Oliver family of South Bend, the furnishings are still intact, the home being donated as a museum by the heirs of the family, after the last Oliver to live there passed away.
