On the right side of Sensoji temple main-hall, there is Asakusa shrine. It is interesting to know that, Buddhist Sensoji and Shintoism Shrine is staying together here. It is much smaller than temple, though, seeing its old architecture of more than 350 years old, and much more quiet and peaceful atmosphere are enough worth visiting. Sometimes on weekends, you can see a monkey show there, too! My recommend is to buy a cute amulets at the shrine office!

This is where the most of the tourists’ destination in Asakusa area. Having been one of the most famous tourist spots in Japan, Sensoji holds more than 30 million visitors every year. It is crowded all year long especially on festival days like New Years, Cherry blossom, and Sanja festival, but from the twilight, the atmosphere turns into very quiet, and beautiful light up. You can enjoy those both faces up to what timing of a day!

Sumida river is one of the biggest river streams in Tokyo. You have many things to enjoy here! You can enjoy running in along the river park all the time, on the last week of March, you can enjoy 650 trees of cherry blossom! There are water cruise between Asakusa, Hamarikyu-garden, and Odaiba bayside shopping town, or there are the traditional restaurant cruise which is called “Yahata-Bunei”, too! It is also good just to walk around the park to enjoy the seasonal transitions.

Nishi Sanso is one of many shopping arcades in Asakusa area located right on west side of Sensoji-main hall. Originally this arcade was for local people or especially many Kimono shops for dancers or actors and so on. Not just they still have good old shops atmosphere, but recently we also have very attractive place along the street. A bakery specialized with Melon shaped bread and pies, Halal Ramen restaurant, places to enjoy goldfish scoop, or some different types of souvenirs and toy shops, too!

This is one of the oldest the busiest shopping streets in Japan! Everyone can enjoy this streets because this shopping street was established and advanced as a pilgrimage street starting from Kaminarimon gate to the main hall of Sensoji. About 90 shops of some food stands, or many different kinds of souvenir will absolutely attract you on the way to the temple. One notice is that, if you would like to enjoy shops, be sure to arrive here before 6PM! Many of the shops start closing from that time. But if you don’t care about shopping and would like to enjoy the lights in the night, it will be much more quiet and you can enjoy a beautiful light up of the temple, too!

If you want to enjoy Tokyo atmosphere in various ways, this is it! Ueno has lots of things to do from historical excursion to souvenir shoppings. There are mainly 2 parts in Ueno. One is the park side with lots of sightseeing resources such as temple, small lake, zoo, and some museums such as Tokyo national museum. And another is the culture side which has lots of shops or shopping malls. Most of the people seem to enjoy “Ame-Yoko” shopping street. Like Nakamise in Asakusa, no doubt that this is one of the busiest shopping streets in Japan, but compared with Asakusa Nakamise, it has much more specialized with foods. If you want to enjoy many kinds of local food, you should go here!

Asakusa is one of the oldest area in Tokyo which has been getting along with the 1400 years history of very big Sensoji-temple. The most famous route is the 800 ft straight shopping street from Kaminarimon gate to the main hall of the temple. There are about 90 shops along the street. We can enjoy some street snacks and a variety of souvenirs of Japan here. Once you turn to the side streets, we can enjoy quite local atmosphere with attractive architectures, small streets, restaurants, bar streets, and entertainment areas, too. This is one of very interesting culture town in Tokyo. At first sight, you can see many of the electric shops all along the Main Street, but this is at the same time, the Mecca of “Otaku” culture. You can enjoy crazy cool cafes specialized with maid cafe, Gundam cafe, or other type of freaky and geeks cafes of Anime characters, or video games! On weekends, the Main Street becomes all for pedestrians.
