Great burgers and less of a wait than the other locations, which usually have a line wrapped around the building. Also within walking distance.

Groceries

Sure, you could go to Walmart, but for me, Fresh Plus is worth the sometimes higher prices. Better produce, better deli, better experience. Seriously, I go to the deli like every other day to get fresh kebobs and breakfast sausage.

Easily grab pretty much whatever you'll need during your stay. I'd recommend Fresh Plus for actual groceries, but for necessities like sunscreen or a forgotten pair of socks, it's nice to have a supercenter less than a mile away.

I prefer Starbucks for on-the-go coffee and beans, whereas Epoch is more of a stay-and-do-work sort of spot. This Starbucks is, like a lot of the places I've listed, within walking distance.

Cinema

An Austin original! This small theater only features a handful of films but it's less than a mile away and has all the quirky events for which the Drafthouse is known. Get tickets early because it fills up quickly.

Bars

Classic Austin mainstay. For years, it was owned by the same people who kept it adorned in Christmas decor - with various theories regarding its origin. Some say it was because the owner's son left for war during Christmas and never came back. Some say it's simply good marketing. It has recently taken new ownership but its halls are still decked with boughs of holly, and now there's a Stubb's food truck outside.

What put this weird little joint on the map is the Sunday "chicken-shit bingo" - which is exactly what you think it is: a giant bingo board, a recently-fed chicken, and eager spectators with money on the table. It's an old church converted to, of all things, a honky tonk. If you're from out of town, this is a must-visit. It's very Texas, and very Old Austin, which is increasingly rare.

Quintessential dive bar turned trendy - basically still a dive bar without scary people. Pro-tip: there's an amazing food truck out back that has unique menu items like venison and bass ceviche. Personally I prefer fanciness served with plastic cutlery.
