These are some of our favorite places to eat, and/or have been highly recommended by other guests.
It's a very short walk across the street with beautiful views overlooking the golf course. The food and service there are also great.

They're a bit pricey for breakfast, but the food is delicious. It's usually crowded during the breakfast rush, especially on weekends. They are also open for lunch and dinner and the food is consistently good. If you're looking for a diner type place with better than the average diner food, this is a great spot.

This is about a 15 minute drive from West Hartford, but it's my absolute favorite breakfast spot. It is family run, the service is outstanding, and the food is delicious. There is always a wait, and that may mean standing in the cold for a few minutes during the winter months, but they do manage the traffic flow well and get you inside pretty quickly.
Ken's Corner Breakfast & Lunch
30 Hebron AveThis is about a 15 minute drive from West Hartford, but it's my absolute favorite breakfast spot. It is family run, the service is outstanding, and the food is delicious. There is always a wait, and that may mean standing in the cold for a few minutes during the winter months, but they do manage the traffic flow well and get you inside pretty quickly.

Frida West Hartford is a new Mexican restaurant in town. The food is AMAZING! The owners are from Mexico and have focused on providing authentic Mexican food. It's the best Mexican food in the area.

Sightseeing
This is the homestead of Noah Webster, the man who created the Blue Back Spelling Book. When you see a Webster's Dictionary, you can thank him. The home is 0.25 miles from my house, and an easy walk. They often have cool events, so it's worth checking out what they've got going on. The tour is small and short (it not a big house), but provides some great information about colonial life.

It's a beautiful building at the heart of the city, with a lovely park surrounding it. There are tours offered inside where you learn about the Connecticut legislature and government operations, as well as the architecture and artwork within the building. Check what is allowed before going as there is a security checkpoint to enter and there may be restrictions on bag size and/or items carried.

It's the oldest fine art museum in the country. It was recently renovated, and is situated in a beautiful historic building.

The base of the hike is about 1.25 miles from the tower. The hike is a bit strenuous for the first half mile, but then levels off with beautiful views from the top of Talcott Mountain. There is a museum at the tower. Unfortunately, there is no car access all the way to the tower, so you do have to hike it, but the views at the top are certainly worth it.

Grocery & Alcohol
This includes some local grocery and convenience stores, as well as where to buy alcohol other than beer. Connecticut law does not permit alcohol sales in grocery stores, so you must go to a liquor store (aka package store) for wine and liquor.
Located in the West Farms mall, it's a great place that is close by to pick up groceries.

If you are a Whole Foods shopper, this one is the closest. It's in the Blue Back Square area, just a mile away. They have their own parking lot, but it is for the store only. They will ticket or tow people who abuse the free lot to go spend the day in the center.

The Mayflower II leaves Plymouth, and is stored in the Mystic Seaport during winter. There is also the Mystic Aquarium, which has a variety of sealife and a lotus pond. The town has many restaurants and shops.

There are a couple of spots along the beach that feature large shelters with tables and amenities, and there is also a nature center in the park.

There is a nautical museum on the water, and there are also boat rides, kayak rentals, and other water activities. It's my favorite small town in CT, and a great place to walk around in autumn. The residents do a great job decorating for Halloween.
The casino features gambling, restaurants and bars, shopping, and entertainment. There are venues for comedy, music, and a large arena for big concerts.

Kent Falls is about an hour's drive east of West Hartford. The drive takes you along beautiful scenic roads, and is especially splendid in autumn. The waterfalls are gorgeous, and there is also a nice covered bridge, picnic area, and hiking trails.
