LaQuinta

WELCOME TO LA QUINTA This “gem in the desert” embraces the outdoors and the arts. Spend the day wandering through Old Town, La Quinta’s main street with cobblestone sidewalks, whitewashed adobe walls, and bougainvillea galore. The quaint thoroughfare provides the perfect storybook-like setting for a chill afternoon of shopping and alfresco dining. Sip on a seasonal IPA at La Quinta Brewing Company (their outdoor patio is great for people-watching). Browse local artists’ wares, ranging from paintings to ceramics to jewelry, during Art on Main Street, held on select Saturdays throughout the year. Shop for fresh fare and flowers at the Old Town Farmers Market. Or rent a beach cruiser through Old Town Peddler to explore more of the surrounding cottage-filled neighborhoods that make up La Quinta Cove, where hikers enjoy easy access to trails that traverse beautiful desert mountains and canyons. Golf in La Quinta Golf remains one of the biggest draws for the outdoor-minded, with several private and public clubs, including the world-famous PGA West, offering multiple links styles and amenities right at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains. Book a tee time on one of these storied courses or make a special trip during the Desert Classic (formerly the CareerBuilder Challenge), when La Quinta plays host to some of the sport’s top players.

Rising abruptly from the desert floor, the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument reaches an elevation of 10,834 feet. Providing a picturesque backdrop to local communities, visitors can enjoy magnificent palm oases, snow-capped mountains, a national scenic trail, and wilderness areas. Its extensive backcountry can be accessed via trails from both the Coachella Valley and the alpine village of Idyllwild. Jointly managed by the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service, the Monument’s boundary encompasses about 280,000 acres, including public lands within the BLM’s California Desert Conservation Area and the San Jacinto Ranger District of the San Bernardino National Forest. The Monument includes two Federal wilderness areas -- the Santa Rosa and the San Jacinto. The Monument was established by an Act of Congress on October 24, 2000, "in order to preserve the nationally significant biological, cultural, recreational, geological, educational, and scientific values found in the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains" (Public Law 106-351). Establishment of the Monument reflects the vision of local citizens and national leaders to ensure this special landscape is protected for all time. always check for access during covid 19

There are only three ways visitors can enter the park: from Yucca Valley in the west, Twentynine Palms in the north, and Cottonwood Springs in the south. The main Visitor Center is actually outside the park, in the nearby town of Joshua Tree. Although the name seems like an oxymoron, Park Boulevard runs from the visitor center to Lost Horse Valley in the heart of the park, where three short interpretive trails (Hidden Valley, Barker Dam, and Cap Rock) are a great introduction to Joshua Tree’s natural and human history. The park embraces parts of two distinct deserts—the Mojave and Sonoran—as it tumbles down from the heights into the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs. These two desert systems divide California's southernmost national park into two arid ecosystems of profoundly contrasting appearance. The key to their differences is elevation. We recommend taking sandwiches and drinks......beautiful scenery. You will never forget visit. https://www.nps.gov/jotr/index.htm

we love the date ice cream. but many love the date shakes...Offering misted outdoor dining in a casual setting. We enjoy their salads and burgers. For almost a century Shields Date Garden has been a place where people come to experience date culture. From the moment you walk through our doors, customers are greeted by every imaginable product incorporating dates. Sit at our quintessential 1960’s original shake counter and sip on a full-flavored refreshing date shake. Learn about dates by watching our film, “The Romance & Sex Life of the Date” (which plays continuously every day). Taste the many different varieties of dates we grow and harvest ourselves at our sample counter, but make sure to leave room for our award-winning Cafe that plates quality breakfast and lunch items, many featuring dates. Complete your Shields venture with a breathtaking walk through our 17-acre date grove and botanical garden which showcases 23 handcrafted statues that depict the life of Christ. Shields is a place where you can remember the past and create new memories for your future.

Located conveniently at 849 Palm Canyon Dr. Palm Springs Depending on the time of day, it can be 25 to 35 minutes' drive from LaQuinta. The food is consistently delicious, the service is perfect the wait staff is elite. I tend to order the Filet, others love their tuna, delicious pasta. for a fun more casual experience you will delete in their beautiful, hip, bar area. The bar serves up wide variety of unique, creative food offerings ...and if you dare try their signature cocktail.

The desert is drying so take ice water with you

We travel with the insulated coffee mugs or tall drink glasses that way it keeps the ice and you can refill with water throughout the day. If driving through the desert it is wise to pop a couple of jugs of water in the trunk. To adjust to the sun, it's wise to wear light layers, hats with brims, sunscreen, and sunglasses for all. Do not let dehydration or sunburn ruin your vacation. Lemon or lime aide are refreshing to have with you.
