This is the best and closest beach to Blue Agate- Tourmaline Beach is a San Diego area surfers’ mecca called Tourmaline Surfing Park. Great parking and sunsets. This beach sits on the border of the Pacific Beach and La Jolla districts of San Diego. The park is located where Tourmaline Street meets the ocean. Tip: get a pre-made cheese plate and wine from Gelson’s and walk down to see the sunset.

Famous reefbreak firmly entrenched in the annals of surfing history. Powerful, thick peak with a long, tapering right and a shorter, hollower left. Either can hold sizeable swells. Best with summer SW swells and any tide; usually bigger than other spots around. Gets very crowded and has a competitive atmosphere Accessed from the end of Vista de la Playa and from Vista de la Playa at Fern Glen, and by stairways along Neptune Place, south of Fern Glen.

Mission Beach is a great base if you love to surf. While not necessarily known for having fantastic waves, Mission Beach itself occasionally can get some great surf. The surf in Mission tends to be best on west and northwest swells and can hold pretty good size with the right tide, wind and swell. The best time of year for catching good surf in Mission Beach tends to be the winter months when the swells are coming in from the north and east Pacific and the fall with the arrival of offshore Santa Ana winds from the north east. The most consistent surf in Mission Beach is at the South Mission Beach jetty, but on any given day there can be fantastic waves anywhere along the beach. One of the best things about surfing Mission Beach is that the beach is so wide that you can almost always find a spot that is uncrowded.

PB is a place for both beginner and advanced surfers to enjoy the beach. Plus, if surfing isn't your thing you could always play beach volleyball, cornhole with the bros, or just throw on your shades and admire the view!
