Arp is a great option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
It is also amazing for sunset happy hour, perfectly located at arpoador beach.
If coming in the summer, choose a weekday, as weekend are unbearably crowded.

Quiteria is a very charming restaurant one block from where you are staying and close to beach. Great dinner option, but also nice for other meals.

If you do go to Santa Teresa one day, have lunch at Bar do mineiro and order a Feijoada. Do not eat the crazy meat that comes inside , or order a plain version. But the beans and bean sauce are fabulous. This is a very typical place in Santa teresa and a great visit.

If you are taking a day to visit downtown Rio, Museu do Amanha is a nice place to stop.
If you are short on time, the museum inside is not a must, but take a walk around the museum and Praça Mauá. Weekends have a lively vibe.

Traffic in Rio is intense. There are not many Subway Stations in Rio, but if your destination has a Subway Station close by, take it.

Use city bikes in bike lanes only.
Drivers in Rio are not very respectful towards pedestrians and bikers. Use bikes for pleasure, not for transport. Bike lanes on the beach or around the lagoon are a great way to explore the city. But by all means do not bike on car lanes. Super dangerous. If you would like to have a bike tour - try Rio by Bike tour. They have great reviews. http://riobybike.com
