As it is found in the town, all facilities (accommodation, shopping etc) are available for you. It is a very good alternative for a quick dive, after you have finished your strolling about or before having your lunch in one of the taverns of the town. In case of health problems the hospital of the town or a near by pharmacy are available for you. Access to the beach from any part of the town is very easy on foot.

It would be unspeakable to visit Syros and not swim in Agkathopes Beach with its crystal clear, blue waters and the sea lilies, which bloom in abundance every summer, demonstrating the rich ecosystem of the region. It is located 14km to the southwest of Ermoupoli, the "do not miss" beach of the island. Although it is a cosmopolitan organized beach with beach bars, it is also suitable for families with young children, since its waters are shallow, safe and ideal for water sports. You will enjoy the view of the islets Schinonisi and Stroggilo, while lying on the beach for as long as you want without the annoying northern winds.

The main beach of Galissas is located in the homonym resort, to the southwest of Ermoupoli, which is 9km away. If you have a boat, you can berth it at the small port of the area. An ideal beach for families.

The Apollo Municipal Theatre of Ermoupolis was built in 1864, by the French architect Chabeau. It is placed on Miaouli square, in the centre of Ermoupoulis, and constitutes a miniature replica of La Scala di Milan. It is made of white marble and limestone and has two floors. It also has many beautiful wall paintings and wooden tiers. This theatre was the first opera house in Greece. Until 1944, Italian operas were frequently presented there. Then the building was destroyed almost completely by the Germans. In 1970, there was an unsuccessful attempt to restore the theatre. Later on, another attempt had better results and today the Apollo Municipal Theatre hosts some of the most important events that take place in Ermoupolis.

The Town Hall of Ermoupolis is placed in Miaouli square. Its particular architecture combines the vibe of the classical ancient Greece with the Romanticism of the West and its general style belongs to the neoclassical architectural style, evidently influenced by the German and Italian architects. The Town Hall of Ermoupoli started to be built in 1876 and was completed in 1898, when D. Vafiadakis was mayor of Ermoupolis. It was designed by Ernst Ziller, a Bavarian architect who knew how to leave a clear trace of the 19th century architecture. The central part is made entirely of marble and there is a marble hanging ladder in its interior that leads to the first floor. The meeting room, where the local government meets, has oil paintings depicting King George I and Queen Olga. The Town Hall also hosts the Archaeological Museum of Syros, the Court of Law, the Land Registry, the Public Archives and some other public services. The Town Hall of Ermoupolis is an impressive building and it is considered among the most beautiful Town Halls of Greece. It will certainly catch your attraction from the very first moment you step your foot in Miaouli square.

To the northwest of Ermoupoli, the area that saved thousands of people from both the pirates during the Byzantine period but also from the Turks during the Ottoman Empire, Ano Syros was built amphitheatrically by the Venetians. The hill on which it is built is called San Tzortzis and its name clearly indicates the influences of the Venetians in the designations and the way of life on the island. The homeland of the ancient Greek philosopher Pherecydes and the great Greek musician Markos Vamvakaris, this medieval town has a distinct and multicultural atmosphere. You will be welcomed by the typical arcade, through which you will find yourself in its interior. You will go up several steps passing through very narrow alleys with whitewashed traditional insular houses (the characteristic of Ano Syros is its "dense" street layout as a precaution from the enemies during old times), until you find yourself at the top with the spectacular view. Therein lies the metropolis of the Catholics "San Tzortzis '', built in the medieval era in the place of a Byzantine church. From this point you can admire the neighboring islands, Tinos, Mykonos, Dilos, Paros and Naxos as well as the gorgeous sunset. This settlement has numerous chapels and churches, among which the monastery of the Capuchins and the monastery of the Jesuits are worth visiting. The Museum dedicated to the musician Markos Vamvakaris will take you back to the most important part of music history in Greece; the aquarium will show you the marine organisms and fish species that are found on the shores of the island, while the exhibition of the traditional professions and tools will show you the industriousness of the islanders. You can reach Ano Syros by bus from the port, since the distance is only 3500 meters of asphalt roadway.

It was founded in 1985 by the municipality of Ermoupoli and the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) and is the one and only Industrial Museum in Greece. While it was previously housed in Kasimantis dye works, in Aneroussis lead works, in Velissaropoulos textile mills and in Kornilakis tan yards, now it has been housed in the renovated dye factory of Kasimantis since 2002. In the museum, you will see old machines such as textile and tanning machines, tools as well as machines used in the shipbuilding yards of the port. You will hear oral testimonies of workers and observe photos, maps, plans and documents that are saved for the purposes of the exhibition. All the above are another proof of the industrial heritage of the island.

It is housed in the west side of the City Hall of Ermoupoli, in Miaoulis Square since 1899. The findings of Ioannis Kokkonis are those that will intrigue you, because they are the first ancient inscriptions found in the Cyclades. You will see utensils and figurines found in Amorgos, Kythnos, Paros, Naxos and Aegina, the oldest and most important settlements in the Cyclades, while the tools, weapons, ceramics as well as the marble and metal works found in the settlements of Kastri and Halandriani reveal the industriousness of the islanders and the development of the island since the 3rd Millennium BC. In the Museum several findings of the Hellenistic and Roman period, such as sculptures, sepulchral steles and inscriptions, are displayed. The impressive compass (No. 177) that was found in a tomb in Halandriani dated from the second half of 3rd Millennium BC along with the "Depas amphikypellon" (double vases) (No. 458) that was found in the village of Kastri, dated from the late 3rd Millennium BC, are the most important exhibits of the museum.
