Drinks & Nightlife

A charmingly petite cocktail bar in East Brunswick, Atticus Finch has a solid grounding in ol’ favourites as well as a playful approach to new creations. Our favourite is the Catcher in the Rye—rye bourbon, maraschino liquer, French vermouth and orange citrus bitters—the perfect mix of sweetness and botanicals.

Combining a cocktail bar with a parlour lounge, Amelia Shaw is one of the best Melbourne bars, northside, tucked away above street level on Brunswick’s Sydney Road. Its Prohibition-era décor and ornamental oddities (a circular pool table?) perfectly complement the drinks menu, which covers everything from 1920s classics to modern-day staples. If you’re a Gatsby fan, an interiors enthusiast or simply love a good gin fizz, Amelia’s for you.

Combining cocktails, food, music and art, Howler is a hulk of a space that’s hidden just off Brunswick’s Sydney Road strip. The venue’s generous opening hours (12pm – 1am, seven days a week) make it a favourite with locals at all stages of their night out—great for catching live bands, checking out up-and-coming DJs or simply people-watching with a stiff drink in hand. One of the best bars in Melbourne? You betcha!

Spotted Mallard is a triple threat. Its draft beer selection is constantly being updated with local and international beers, making it one of Brunswick’s top beer bars. It is also one of Brunswick’s premier performance venues for Melbourne’s music scene, with the stage being the main focal point among the cool, vintage decor. On top of that, Spotted Mallard offers a menu of classic bar snacks and larger meals, including their selection of burgers that show off seasonal flavors and the chef’s artistic flair.

A playspace has been developed on the De Chene Parade side of Coburg Lake Reserve. Enjoy the 'outdoor lounge' with its magical creatures and favourite toys carved into a lounge suite. There is also a great flying fox, a five-way swing, maze and a outdoor 'Twister' board. The playground on the Lake Grove side of the reserve - the main lake playground - has also been refurbished and has new equipment. A high tower with two slides has been installed, as well as a great climbing net. There is also a basket swing and other swings, rockers and spinners.

Great field with lots of of parking, access to the river walk and one end of the park is an off leash dog area. The only downside to this is the park not fenced and right by a busy road. But with such a big field and walking track, it's easy enough to keep your pooch off the main road. The grass here is nice and lush and there's always a game happening.
