Neighborhood

The Bungalow Heaven National Historic District is one of the largest collections of Craftsman bungalows in the country. Just head north from our house and start walking; you’ll see hundreds of charming bungalows. A few highlights: 1125 N Mar Vista The Sutton House was designed by architect John Austin, who designed such landmarks as the Los Angeles City Hall, Griffith Observatory, and the Shrine Auditorium. 746 N Mar Vista Directly behind us is a house designed by renowned architects Greene & Greene (who designed the world-famous Gamble House). The “Breiner House,” alas, is nowhere near as pretty. Built in 1894, it was one of the Greene brothers’ first commissions, and has now been converted into a fourplex. 745 N Michigan Right next door to us, you might recognize this house as being on the “Bungalow Heaven” signs, and on the official logo of the Bungalow Heaven Neighborhood Association. 1189 N Wilson One of our favorite houses is this Swiss Chalet-style bungalow. (Our house is also a Chalet-style bungalow.)

Food scene

Pasadena has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the United States. You have a ton of choices! These are places that are easily walkable from our house.
A small Italian market, the thing to get here is “The Sandwich,” a simple but very tasty sandwich that was lauded by none other than Jonathan Gold.

While most people stick to Colorado Boulevard, we encourage you to explore a bit more. There are plenty of historic alleys, even if they may not have historic names (Big Bang Theory Way).

Hiking

There is a ton of great hiking nearby! The San Gabriel Mountains are only a couple miles north, and within 15 minutes you can reach Griffith Park, Elysian Park, or Debs Park, all with great trails. These recommendations are just the tip of the iceberg. I recommend downloading the free AllTrails app, or you can ask me -- my dog and I are dedicated hikers who know the area well.

Doggie stuff

Where to find food, medical care, and grooming for your fur-baby. And: Fun stuff dogs will like! In addition to these recommendations, dogs are generally allowed on the trails listed under "Hiking." (Dogs are generally prohibited from trails in state and national parks.)
