Sightseeing
This is a great hike that is near to the house (3.5 miles away). Parking is easy.
The Branford Trolley Trail is essentially a long footbridge occupying an old bridge along the route of an abandoned trolley track. The bridge links nature trails on both sides of the water through a marsh habitat that is home to many shorebirds, fish, mammals and invertebrates.
The trail is part of the growing Shoreline Greenway Trail that will one day stretch 25 miles through four towns along Connecticut's southern coast.
Parking and Trail Access
Parking is at both ends: off Tilcon Road in Pine Orchard and off Thimble Island Road in Stony Creek.

Excellent for a long bike ride or picnic. They charge in season and often close the entrance at capacity. Walk the beach or follow the boardwalk.

Our favorite walk is right at the house. Walk out the driveway towards the water and open the fence gate on the right. Follow the path to the last sidewalk (SoundView). At the end of Soundview go left up Linden towards Owenego. Walk the Owenego property. Note: some neighbors will let you cut through their yards into the Owenego property (open to the public to walk the grounds at any time). Walk down to the water and onto the rocks. If we want to make the walk longer, we’ll continue up Linden until you get to the steps that lead down to the water. Go down the steps and walk back along the beach. When you get to the end you’ll be back at Owenego and can walk up their stairs by the water.

This park is on the water and very close to the house. It has fantastic, paved walking paths that hug the shoreline. It also has a playground and tennis courts.

Hiking
The 25 mile Branford Trail is a unique trail that borders a majority of the town's perimeter. The White Circle Blazed Trail passes through the shoreline, wetlands, many town parks, northerly woodlands, and many Branford Land Trust and Open Space Properties. The trail is separated into 8 sections that begin and end a a public road with space for parking. Every home in Branford is within 15-minutes walking time of a trail. This Trail has recently been awarded Greenway Status by the Connecticut Greenways Council.
