Balance Rock Farm, is one of my favorite local farms. They are just the nicest people. Full of good advice and great farming stories. This farm has been in the same family for generations. Inside you find fresh local honey, and a range of other things including local maple syrup. Great place to pick up a few odds and ends for sure. I couldn't do what I do here at Wildflower, without the wonderful and unfailing advice I get from the folks down at Balance Rock.

I couldn't do what I do here at Wildflower, without the wonderful and unfailing advice I get from the folks down at Balance Rock.
This place is great in Sudbury. It is so much more than a restaurant. It boasts a beautiful old mill and space to walk around.... It has been associated for historical reasons with Longfellow the famous early american writer. Oh the stories I could tell about the fun I had here as a child. But I am a bit ashamed of them. It was one of those rare places my dad would encourage me to get my naughty on as a kid. This place always makes me smile and it is not far from one of the nicest candy stores in the area.... Shut up. That is what you do when you steal people's wishes from out of the stream looking for the silver if you can find it when you are 7.

Full of old caves and area to walk around. My dad used to take me here as a child. It is part of what inspired me to study archaeology. Getting to go in and explore all those caves really got my imagination working.

Skiing for most is a good time. Not my thing, but we are only about 15 minutes from the slopes.

They have a very nice greenhouse in the spring, in the winter we get our christmas tree here. They also offer through the season, pick your own berries and they offer a number of varieties of berry. In the autumn around halloween time we like to go there to watch the pumpkin throw. They park a car in a big empty field and then catapult people's pumpkins at it till someone's pumpkin hits it. It is loads of fun to hang with the locals and cheer our pumpkins on.

This is a fun place, founded by the father of Louisa May Alcott the writer of Little Women, it was a community and now a museum about the Alcott philosophy. Needless to say it didn't work out and this beautiful place was later abandoned due to starvation and the life style being too hard on the idealistic folks who moved out to the country from the city. As a result they all packed it in and went to live in Concord in Emerson's community.
