This is a very charming area of Oslo with smal wooden houses. Before a poor working class area. Now you have to sell your kidneys for a one room flat here. The atmosphere is for free though.

Our favorite place in Oslo. Destiny of mankind carved in stone. The Vigeland Park (also known as Frognerparken) has hundreds of statues of mankind from cradle to grave, all carved in massive granite. It is in fact a tribute to life and the power of love. The park is also very popular for the local neighborhood, and it is open 24/7. The Vigeland Museum is located next to the park, and if you like the park, you can learn more about the artist and how the sculptures were made here.

One of the best sightseeing experiences in Scandinavia, and definetly value for money. Skibladner is an old steam boat sailing on the largest lake in Norway, Mjøsa. https://www.skibladner.no/hjem You can do a round trip or start in Hamar or Gjøvik and leave in Lillehammer. Skibladner got its name from the ship of the god Frøy in Norse mythology, and the ship could sail both on land and sea.

Lillehammer is a beautiful little inland town, with tons of colourfull timbered houses, a nice view over Norways largest lake - Mjøsa. It has a nice museum, Maihaugen, giving an insight into life in Norway both in ancient times and today. https://en.lillehammer.com/information/product/lillehammer-town-centre-p631103?_ga=2.8947825.532493590.1497862194-498315031.1497862194 https://en.lillehammer.com/things-to-do/maihaugen-museum-p630553?_ga=2.252200013.532493590.1497862194-498315031.1497862194

After old Oslo burnt to the ground, the Danish-Norwegian king Christian IV ordered the new city to be buildt here, of course named after the king - Christiania which was the name of Oslo untill it was changed back to Oslo in 1925. The new town was to be modern and safe, thus the grid structure and houses buildt with bricks. Lots of very nice buildings from aroun 1600 here. For decades this was a rather gloomy part of Oslo with drug dealers and prostitutes. Now it is transforming itself into posh offices, flats, restaurants, designer shops and the like. very nice area to explore. The old castle, Akershus festning, is also worth a visit https://www.visitoslo.com/no/produkt/?TLp=14900&Akershus-
