Bars, Restaurants and Stuff we like to do in Sanford

The following are a sample of our go to bars and restaurants
This place is all around cool, i think there are about 5 bars in the entire place. Great live music venue, "The Music Box" and one of our favorite bars (within the main bar itself), "Suffering Bastard" the only drawback to Tuffy's is the food

The Willow Tree is truly a must stop for any first time Sanford tourists. It is probably where Sanford's nightlife got started. I literally celebrated each of my birthday's there for about 10 years straight. Great for groups. Go on Friday-Sunday nights to see Jimmy and Eckhard. Just a great time and terrific food. Hollerbach's has expanded into mulitple bars and rooms over the past couple years. Family friendly

Celery City is a huge place with some great events. Very chill place and especially good during Covid since it's spacious and mostly outside. Check the schedule for their open mic and comedy nights. Also, if you like Japanese food, they've got a great little tucked away spot to grab some sushi or poke bowls.

Palate Coffee is another go to for us for Coffee and light breakfast. It's also a great place for opening your laptop and doing some work if you need a place like that. Notice, no Starbucks in Sanford. Palate should do the trick...

If you're in the mood for a super chill, relaxed environment to have a glass of wine and meet some friendly people, you're literally steps away. The Blue Aztec is one block away from Ellen's. No menu ( i don't think)

Buster's is one of our go-to's for great food and beer. Try the Poutine, it's a must. This is a Belgian themed restaurant so you'll see some unique items on the menu and unique beers too! They have events almost every night except for Monday i think. Family friendly.

The Imperial falls into the category for me of cool bars I forget about because there are so many cool bars in Sanford. Unique vibe at the Imperial because the lounge area doubles as an Antique or reconditioned furniture store. Really cool pieces to check out.

Wop's has some good food and beer and is only a block away so it's your best bet if you're in a hurry to grab a beer and some food. My favorite there is the Vegeterian Sausage Sub.

The West End is truly a local favorite. It's been around a long time, more a younger crowd there. I'm 45 so it's all relative. I think they have a menu though i've never tried it. I think West End firmly falls into the Dive Bar category. The happy hour 2-1 is pretty much all day into the evening so if you want to catch a glimpse of local Sanfordites and have some cheap beer or cocktails, this is your place.

We just discovered this place last night, do you see a trend here in this Guidebook? There are so many cool restaurants and bars it's hard to name just a few. If you like Jamaican food, you can't go wrong here. We had the goat and it was awesome!

The Alley is kind of one part biker bar and one part just regular live music venue. Eliana and I go here anytime we want to hear great live music. We've never been disappointed. And don't worry, you don't have to be a biker to enjoy The Alley. No menu.

If you're staying with us for a few days and can fit this in, you should go out for a sail with DJ. She will teach you to sail or take you out for a cruise on beautiful Lake Monroe. Let her know Anthony sent you. I used to belong to the Lake Monroe Sailing Association and she's a good friend. DJ is also a great person and resource for all things Sanford.

The "Rivership Romance" is kind of something that everyone needs to do at least once. I think it's been many years since I did it. They have a lunch and dinner cruise, i think. It's the easiest way to see Sanford from the best place, Lake Monroe.

This is the only choice if you want to eat right on the water. This restaurant has changed hands so many times over the years i can't keep track. It was one of the restaurants that all of us sailors used to hang out. The food is good and the views are great. You should be able to spot many sailboats out on the water, especially if you go during March-October "Rum Racing" on Wednesday evenings.
