Super Local Hikes

The pacific northwest has some of the best hiking in the world, and some of it is right in our backyard! These hikes are all right here in West Seattle.
This park has some gigantic old growth trees, that make you feel as though you've left the city for a tiny patch of wilderness! It also has a large bridge you can walk under, a little stream you can cross by hopping across a little rock path, and plenty of woodpeckers and other local wildlife.

Located a quick 20 minute walk from the cottage, Lincoln Park has both a magical forest with a network of walking paths, and a waterfront walking/biking path. The forest paths are all flat and great for an easy quick hike. The walk down to the water is well worth it as you can often see seals, bald eagles and other sea birds, and the occasional sea lion rolling around in the surf.

This little hidden gem of a park somehow feels huge. Walk in and get lost in the cedar grove, and cross a little stream where local salmon can be found spawning!

Walk or bike along the beachfront path and stop for ice cream, snacks and drinks at any of the local spots along the way! A favorite is Sunfish for Fish and Chips or Harry's Beach House for a cocktail.

This hike is lightly challenging, but has some really great views and spots to stop and have a snack in the peaceful forest.

Do you love Twin Peaks? Of course you do. These are the waterfalls in the opening credits, and you can park and walk just a few feet to a viewpoint at the top, or walk all the way down to a viewpoint at the bottom and get your exercise in as you walk back up. This is one of my favorite places to take out of town guests. You can also visit the Twin Peaks diner for a snack afterwards, in the town of North Bend, which is nearby.

A short-ish loop hike that meanders through the forest, up and down and past some pretty view points. I love this little hike because it feels remote but is a quick drive from the cottage.

A good destination hike on the Olympic peninsula, pretty quick to get there and the little lake is so picturesque.
