Sightseeing

Just East of Sturgis. Hike our beautiful Bear Butte or "Mato Paha" as it's called by the Lakota and Sioux. Great hike but be prepared to get a good work out. No dogs allowed and small kids may need several breaks. A religious site and important landmark to the native tribes; you'll see dozens of prayer cloths as you climb. It truly is an awakening experience and the view from the top is absolutely incredible.

Visit Deadwood only 10 minutes from Sturgis. Where Wildbill Hickock and Calamity Jane made their mark. TONS of cool stores to shop, even the best toy shop you've ever seen. Gran some Chubby Chipmunk Chocolate and cruise down Main Street while enjoying the free bands play on the outdoor stage. Saloon #10, Bodega Bar, Happy Days, and Pam's Purple Door are all hot spots to check out while on Main Street.

Regardless of the season, Spearfish Canyon's beauty is hard to beat. Gorgeous winding roads with high cliffs and tons of secret trails (Try to find 11th Hour Trail) to explore. Water Falls, picnic areas, and a stroll through the woods next to the creek.

Take a 2 hour train ride through the middle of the Black Hills from Custer to Hill City (20 miles). This train takes you where your car never could! Christmas time they do a Holiday Express ride with Santa and lots of lights. Both Hill City and Custer are worth exploring. Think homemade taffy, antique stores, treasures galore, local gemstone specimens, and the best ice cream you'll ever taste.

Another one that will blow your socks off! This place is the perfect spot in the Summer to visit. Snakes, spiders, alligators, crocodiles, bald eagles, hawks, various colorful exotic birds, prairie dogs, and giant tortoises. You can't leave without saying hello and snapping a picture with Maniac the 16 foot crocodile and Cheyenne the stunning bald eagle. There's also a gorgeous luscious garden and a giant dome that houses birds and snakes roaming free. It has a little bit of everything...sight seeing, informational, historic!

Take Your Time

In South Dakota, the world seems to slow down. We are all about slowing our pace and taking in what our beautiful Black Hills has to offer. Don't rush and try not to stress. You're going to have a great time no matter what town or site you visit. And most local people are absolutely wonderful at helping travelers or sharing their knowledge of the area so stop, chit chat, and dig deep because there's a lot here. Enjoy!

Be advised we do have Uber and Lyft, but neither are allowed to operate in Deadwood. We have multiple taxi services and a trolley system that runs within Deadwood.
