From Kamari, if you have a car, you can follow a road going up the mountain called "Messa Vouno". At the mountain top (396 m. above sea level) you will find the Archaeological site of "Ancient Thera". This is the Classical city of the island founded in the 9th century B.C.

Entertainment & Activities
Akrotiri is a nice old village. Just after the village, following the road to the sea you find the Archaeological site of Akrotiri (there is a bus stop). A prehistoric town has been found there, with impressive building remains and other finds that survived until today protected by the volcanic material that once caused a huge destruction. You can also visit the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, in Fira, to see some of the unique wall-paintings and other finds of Akrotiri.
Near the archaeological site you can find the Red Beach (***At the end of the route, you will need to walk a path through the rocks/cliffs to access it - about 5 mins).
