Set your GPS for "Summerhaven" which is a little ski town at the top of the mountain. 25 minutes from Sonoran Guest Cottage to the base of the mountain, it's a 45-minute or so drive to the peak through several biomes with a temperature drop of 30 degrees. There are hiking trailheads off the road all the way up so stop off when the temperature or scenery suits. This is a must-see! The cookie cabin and gift shop next door are fun stops at the top. The general store has homemade fudge and Mount Lemmon souvenirs.

This National Park has a variety of hiking trails 1 Cin a desert canyon with trailheads right off the parking lot. Another worthwhile feature is the tram - a ticketed tour with interesting driver guides.

Approach the park via Gates Pass - breathtaking views with lots of pull-outs for taking in the scenery. Hiking trails at SNP are exposed to the hot sun so heading out early is best or on the few "cool" days of winter. This is quintessential cactus forest.
