Things to do around Blue Poles.

Blue Poles is beach front just with just sand dunes and the steam train between you and the Indian Ocean. Apart from beach walks there is a lovely walk into the wetlands that the house overlooks. There’s lots of wildlife there including kangaroos and incredible bird life. Just head down the driveway and go right towards the end of the street then left under the Victor -Port Elliot road. It’s good on a bike too. The bike trail is in front of the house and leads to either Goolwa or the Bluff at Encounter Bay. It’s pretty flat and easy for adults and children alike. The Fleurieu Aquatic centre is just through the wetlands or just 4 mins in the car. There’s a hydrotherapy pool, 25m lap leisure and aquatic fitness pool, dedicated kids pools and gym. See the guest book for a brochure and more detail. On the beach, just east of Watson’s Gap, we do have tiny endangered hooded plovers that nest near the wooden boardwalk under the railway bridge. It is usually fenced so you will see where I mean but the babies are tiny and rarely make it to adulthood due to the presence of foxes and dogs off lead. Please keep the dog on a lead there. The walking path to the beach goes from the sea side of the house via the Chiton Rocks carpark...you’ll see a small trail on the Victor side. Please avoid going straight over the dunes as they are fragile. There may be snakes...haven’t ever seen any, but be vigilant...it IS Australia. We also have a bearded dragon living in the garden. He’s a bit shy but you may catch a glimpse if the sprinklers are on or he’s sun baking. Chiton Rocks SLSC has just been renovated and is open on weekends for coffees, meals or a drink on their lovely deck. The beach has life savers on duty during the summer months mostly on the weekends. If you’re wanting a safer beach for young children to swim, then Dump beach a little closer to Victor or Horse shoe Bay in port Elliot would be the choice. Surfing is very popular here though and we have some wetsuits available for your use. Port Elliot has lots of dining and shopping options. Both Pubs there are good, as is Thunderbird restaurant which also does great coffee and breakfast or lunch.

Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month there is a community market from 9am to 4pm in summer and 9am to 3pm in winter and during January it’s on every Sunday. They have a large variety of stall holders selling anything from bric-a-brac to fashion, as well as tools, beauty products, jewellery, honey, candles, soaps, hot food, coffee and plenty more! It’s a quaint little community market – you never know what you’ll find. Also there is the Victor HARBOR Farmers Market. The market is open every Saturday 8.00am – 12.30pm rain, hail or shine! It is located at Grosvenor Gardens, Victor Harbor (opp. Victor Harbor Central).
