The best ice cream you will try anywhere, and that’s a fact ! With Mumbles being somewhere that many people visit on a weekend, it is customary in Swansea for people to drive to Mumbles “for a Joe’s”.

Visit this place and enjoy British and Vegetarian cuisines. Good burgers, tapas and coleslaw. This restaurant provides tasty sticky toffee pudding, pancakes and brownies. Delicious lager, prosecco or liqueur are among the tastiest drinks to degust. Visit this place and try great cappuccino, tea or fresh juices. Prices at this place are worth attention as they're fair. You will certainly appreciate the cool atmosphere and modern decor.

5 Cwmdonkin Drive in the Uplands suburb of Swansea is the house in which the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas was born and lived with his family for the first 23 years of his life and where he created 2/3rds of his published works. It played a huge part in shaping the style and output of Dylan Thomas. Dylan was born in the front bedroom of the house in 1914 and continued to live at Number 5 until his parents moved out in 1937. The Birth Place has been restored to its condition in 1914 when it was bought as a new house by the Thomas family. We guarantee that there will be something that you will see or touch that will provide memories for a long time to come. The house has a growing reputation for introducing new literary and musical talent from both Wales and the rest of the world. No.5 is open for house tours every day for visits from 10:30-4:30pm and the relaxed journey takes you through the beautifully restored rooms to give you an insight into life in the Edwardian era and a perfect starting point to discover just how Dylan was inspired by "...this sea-town..." These visits generally last 1hr 15mins. Phoning ahead is advisable as on occasion the house is required for filming, meetings and other purposes which will mean the inability to host visits at times where advertised. We do of course, apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused in these instances. Good homemade lunches and 'Dinner at Dylan's' can also be pre-arranged to make your visit just that extra bit special! The Dylan Thomas Birthplace is unique in that it is also available for bed & breakfast and self catering stays throughout the year. When you book the house you have exclusive use during your stay! Clyne Gardens, perhaps better described as a Park contains probably the finest collection of rhododendrons in Wales, including a group of 'Loderi King George' which grow to 16m high. The tallest recorded Magnolia in Britain 'Magnolia campbellii var. alba' can be found here. They were created as gardens to the historic Clyne Castle now in private ownership. Paths take you through a wooded valley by the side of a fast running stream with small waterfalls There is a bog garden, home to giant Elephant Rhubarb and American skunk cabbage. The bluebell wood and the wild flower meadow, not to mention the National Collections of Pieris, Enkianthus and Rhododendrons ensure that the gardens are good all year round. There are areas planted with herbaceous plants and grasses which add colour to the scene.

Beaches

Langland is very much a local favourite for families. Langland is one of the Gower Surfing hot spots, renowned around the UK's surf scene for its many different types of breaks. It is equally popular with less energetic visitors who enjoy exploring rock pools, strolling along the promenade or catching the impressive sunsets. There is good access to the promenade for wheelchair users and also ramped access onto the beach. The promenade is backed with cafes, traditional beach huts, limestone cliffs and a golf course. There are also outdoor showers, tennis courts for hire and an information centre open at peak times. The beach stretches across to Rotherslade Bay, although the two are separated at high tide. The coastal path linking the neighbouring beaches of Rotherslade, Limeslade and Caswell offers many fine views in both directions along the coast.

Caswell is another very popular bay, with plenty of sand to sit on, waves to surf and rock pools to explore. Life guards patrol the beach during high season. There is a dog ban on Caswell bay from 1st April to 30th September. The public toilets are conveniently situated between the car park and the beach. There is also a shop selling souvenirs and buckets and spades etc. A short walk to the West at low tide will take you round the headland to Brandy Cove. Be very careful to keep an eye on the tide. If in doubt, there is a footpath leading down to Brandy Cove from the main road. Following the paved footpath to the East, towards Swansea will take you to Langland Bay.

Pubs, bars and cafes

This place is a real gem. A small independently owned, and friendly pub. The name "Ty Cwrw" is Welsh for "Beer House". They have four real ales and six craft keg beers, all sourced from a variety of Welsh breweries and listed on a large blackboard facing the entrance. Although the frontage appears to be narrow from the outside, there is a second room located behind the front room and the long wooden bar. Both rooms are decorated in a modern light scheme including a range of paintings from local artists. Absolutely incredible food at Hatch Rotisserie which is situated at the back of this pub. Sharon and I came across this place earlier this year. A real authentic atmosphere, friendly staff and locals, and delicious food from the Hatch. Highly recommended. From the cottage, a 20 minute walk towards the pier. Hatch. Fantastic selection of beers and the rotisserie chicken from Hatch is so delicious.

20 seconds walk from our cottage !! Dog friendly, the Beaufort is a charming eighteenth-century village local with a welcoming atmosphere. Previously closed down by its owning pub group, it was bought out by a private couple in 2017. They have since, tastefully renovated it and have become popular with the locals by increasing the range of good beers on offer. It has a traditional L-shaped main bar with TV and dartboard and also a small, comfortable lounge. Both rooms have real fires, and there is a small outside drinking area at the rear. A pub team usually enters the Mumbles raft race each year, recorded in many photographs on the walls. A quiz is held on Tuesdays.
