Impressive and noisy, Easter in Corfu brings to everyone's mind the famous custom with boots that takes place on Holy Saturday in the heart of the beautiful city. Nature is dressed in green, with the scents of flowers, and the city is preparing to host a major religious event. The name Corfu (Kèrkyra) names not only the island, but also with the signal of the first Resurrection at 11 in the morning, the inhabitants of Corfu throw huge jugs full of water - the boots - from their balconies. The balconies are decorated and the residents tie red ribbons on the boots - red is the color of Corfu. its capital, which is a beautiful, sophisticated and charming town. Γειτονιές

Spianada is the largest square in Corfu and in the whole Balkans, an impressive and historic square. In 1576 the inhabitants began to demolish buildings located around the Fortress to increase their visibility and defense. It is estimated that about 2,500 homes were demolished in 2.5 years. The area was later planted with trees by the French, creating the now historic Spianada in the center of Corfu town. The walk to the Spianada is enjoyable and necessary, as the view to the sea is wonderful. Walking in the square one can see the Ionian Ring Stern built in honor of Sir Thomas Maitland, English Commissioner, while you can also buy prickly pears from the various wanderers in the square. In the square you will usually hear a group or the city philharmonic playing classical music or jazz. On Holy Saturday at 11 in the morning, the custom of Botides is revived in the city of Corfu. The inhabitants throw the famous clay jugs from the balconies of their houses, exorcising the evil spirits

Μουσεία

At the beginning of the 20th century, the archaeological collection of Corfu, as small, was housed in a High School of the city and later transferred to a building built to create an Archaeological Museum. Its original purpose was to host and exhibit antiquities from the Temple of Artemis Corfu. Excavations that were carried out later were the reason for which the expansion of the Museum was required, as a result of which additions and appropriate alterations were created in order to adequately house the now rich archaeological collection of Corfu. The Museum was inaugurated in March 2019 after its renovation and the re-exhibition of its collections.
