Keswick is a neighbouring lake district town, much busier and much more touristy than Cockermouth. Here you can hire rowing boats or board the launch to sail Derwent Water. Most eateries in Keswick tend to be dog friendly.

A nice relatively easy walk around Buttermere Lake (just under 5 miles) is a great way to spend a morning or an afternoon! Take a picnic or stop off at the cafe, lovely little ice cream shop too!

One of our favourite lakes to walk around, just a short drive from our air bnbs in Cockermouth. Around 8 miles to walk the full loop around the lake. Also a perfect place for wild swimming if you are brave enough, or letting the kids have a paddle on a summers day!

Whinlatter has so much to offer. There's a wild play park dotted throughout the forest for kids, as well as a Gruffalo trail. There are some great walking/running trails through the forest, aswell as tracks for mountain biking. Siskins cafe is a lovely place to have lunch/coffee and cake. Here you will also find the Go Ape adventure activitiy throughout the tree tops!
