Contemporary vibe

This lovely coffee shop is in Cliffe High Street in Lewes near the Antiques Emporiums. Delicious coffee and a great place to go for a meal too - brunch is one of our favourites! You can even walk across the fields and take your dog if you sit in the terraced area out the back.

This is one of our favourite restaurants in Brighton - we're not vegetarians but this veggie restaurant is enough to convert even the most carnivorous amongst us! A lovely location in the Lanes, cosy vibe and the most delicious corn on the cob ribs in the whole wide world....

Head to Firle for a blustery walk along the downs and then retreat to the the Ram Inn in the village for a fireside beer or meal. The pub has a massive garden out the back with barbecues and open air cinema in the summer, as well as a terrace at the front - the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by. One of our favourite local hostelries.

Glyndebourne's flagship summer programme of world class opera is world-renowned, in addition you can visit the site for concerts, talks and events throughout the year. It is always worth checking what is on and heading to Glyndbourne for afternoon tea if it is on offer. The gardens are stunning as is the Opera House - if you get the opportunity to visit, we urge you to do so.

City/town information

Lewes is a busy town full of places to visit but if you do fancy going further afield, Eastbourne, Brighton and Tunbridge Wells are all worth a trip.
Lewes is an eclectic mix of independent shops and restaurants, an enviable selection of coffee shops and some rather wonderful galleries. Visit Harveys Brewery, walk up to the castle, explore the Needlemakers shops and cafes or browse the antiques markets. The Rugby and Football clubs, Pell's swimming pool, Southdown sports club and the Depot Arts cinema mean there really is something for everyone here.

There are a lot of lovely places to walk - on the downs or on the seafront, as well as good cafes and restaurants. The Beacon shopping centre in the town centre has recently been refurbished and incorporates a cinema. Little Chelsea, Meads village and Old Town both have their own special characteristics and Gildredge Park is great for tennis, football, picnics or general running around, with a playpark for small kids. There are some great traditional pubs dotted throughout the town - The Lamb, The Pilot and The Stage Door all worth a visit. The Congress Theatre and Towner Art Gallery have full and varied programmes throughout the year and of course Devonshire Park is famous for the LTA pre Wimbledon tournament.
