Balmoral Castle is the Scottish holiday home to the Royal Family and this year the grounds, gardens, exhibitions, gift shops and coffee shop will be open to the Public on a daily basis from Friday 1st April until Tuesday 2nd August.
Within walking distance of my home and a nice place to spend the day. Only one room is open to the public (the castle ballroom) but there are exhibitions in the stables area and information handsets to take round with you.
The grounds are very pleasant with walks for all abilities. Yellow and green trails are on the flat and red and blue are uphill.

Crathie Kirk is a small Church of Scotland parish church in the Scottish village of Crathie, best known for being the regular place of worship of the British royal family when they are in residence at the nearby Balmoral Castle.

One of our go to places for lunch when out and about in the Banchory area. We have never experienced a bad meal here and the service is very good.
We recommend you book lunch in advance, although if you drop in for morning coffee or afternoon tea there is usually space available.

A good place for a light lunch or coffee and cakes when out and about in Braemar.
If you can get an outside table, then do so. A fine view of the river Clunie and the gorge below can be had from the decking.
Look out for pine martens who make their home in the area. We have seen them!

If you can get an outside table, then do so. A fine view of the river Clunie and the gorge below can be had from the decking.

Ballater Golf Club was founded in 1892, originally as a nine hole course, on land owned by the laird of Invercauld. When farmland became available in 1905, the course was expanded to eighteen holes.
A match was staged in August 1906, between two very well known golfers, James Braid and Harry Vardon, to celebrate the construction of a pavilion and the extension of the course.
This eighteen hole, medium length golf course is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Upper Deeside.
Several holes lie close to the River Dee and many a ball has gone to a watery grave. Ballater and its golf course lie within a circle of hills with glorious views, a delightful golfing experience.
The course can best be described as heathland, although farther away from the river there are some distinct parkland characteristics.
There are also a good number of undulations formed by river terraces running along the ancient flood plain and these help make it interesting to play.
Ballater offers its toughest test to par on its opening six holes, which include two difficult par threes. However, with the beautiful scenery, dominated by Lochnagar to the west, and the fresh Highland air, few can fail to enjoy this lovely course.

Parks and Nature
A great place for a good leg stretch. A circular walk of Loch Muick will take about three hours without stopping. You will need GBP 5 to pay for the car park and this money goes towards the upkeep of footpaths in the area. There are picnic tables by the visitors centre also.

A lovely place to visit and see the rescue horses enjoying life at Belwade Farm. A small indoor exhibition is on site to learn more about the World Horse Welfare charity (which we support) and nice walks outside to visit the horses. A coffee shop and restaurant are in the main building and on a sunny day there's nothing like sitting outside on the decking with coffee and cakes to enjoy the lovely countryside all around.

A93A lovely place to visit and see the rescue horses enjoying life at Belwade Farm. A small indoor exhibition is on site to learn more about the World Horse Welfare charity (which we support) and nice walks outside to visit the horses. A coffee shop and restaurant are in the main building and on a sunny day there's nothing like sitting outside on the decking with coffee and cakes to enjoy the lovely countryside all around.

The Meikleour Beech Hedge, four miles south of Blairgowrie is the longest hedge in Britain and the highest of its kind in the world.
Recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the highest hedge in the world, the Meikleour Beech Hedge was planted in 1745 and is one third of a mile long (530 m) and 100 ft (30 m) high.
It is thought the men who planted it were called to fight in the Jacobite Rebellion and none of them returned alive. In tribute the trees were allowed to grow and the hedge acts as a living landmark to them.
In spring, the young green leaves reflect the light, while in the autumn the trees display beautiful russet and gold colours.
The hedge is cut and re-measured every 10 years, a complex operation that takes four men approximately six weeks to complete.
