Fun things to do when in Sunriver
The Carefree Cabin includes 8 complementary SHARC passes! Perhaps one of the most family-friendly attractions in Sunriver is the SHARC aquatic park. The outdoor areas are open only seasonally, but the indoor water works are open all year. The water is heated and there are activities for all ages here: Waterslides, lap swim, a lazy river, water jungle gyms, tot pools, hot tub, complimentary lounge chairs for catching some sun and a cafe! You will wish time would slow down once you relax into your sunny (or shaded) lounge chair.

Smith Rock State Park is beautiful, wild, and magical and we have loved every trip we have taken there, whether camping or day tripping, hiking or climbing. It is worth noting that while there is great rock scrambling here, sport climbing at Smith is geared more for intermediate climbers and above. Even if just for hiking and nature gazing this is a great place to check out. Kids love the rock scrambling and random wildlife spottings. We saw a wild porcupine! Smith Rock State Park is a 50 minute drive from the Carefree Cabin in Sunriver.

Smith Rock State Park is beautiful, wild, and magical and we have loved every trip we have taken there, whether camping or day tripping, hiking or climbing. A beautiful turquoise lake perfect for fishing with a cafe, day use areas and lovely hiking trails. They also have canoes, paddleboats, and stand-up paddleboards for rent! Paulina Lake is a 36 minute drive from the Carefree Cabin.

Benham Falls is a nice place to visit that you can easily access from inside Sunriver (Trailhead just north of Circle 7). A smooth rock water slide! Something nearby we have not tried ourselves but looks really fun is The Paulina Plunge which combines mountain biking and water play on a natural smooth rock water slide - 'Chief Paulina's water slide'.

This is a fun option for families or really anyone who wants to explore their creative side. Try your hand at glass-fusing, canvas painting, candle-making, pottery painting, and more! Reservations can be made or you can simply walk-in.

Mt. Bachelor ski area is only a 25 minute drive from the Carefree Cabin! If you are visiting in the months of December through April ...a day (or more) of playing in the snow is a must. Whether snowshoeing, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, sledding or just building a snowman and pelting each other with snow....you will have plenty of convenient snow & trails to choose from. the main lodge has a large gear/apparel shop and you can enjoy a beer or cocktail with a view of the mountain just outside. The Carefree Cabin has plenty of garage space for wet gear after your day of fun.

The Fold is one of our favorite eateries in Sunriver, we have tried almost everything on their menu! In the mood for pizza? The Fold Kitchen has got you covered with their delicious craft pizzas. Don't miss their Signature Fold Sandwiches which are a cross between a panini and a pizza. When I visit The Fold, it's hard for me to deviate from their giant Arugula and Burrata salad - it's amazing! Also, this place makes one of the best Old Fashioned's we have ever had the pleasure of sipping.

If your group is in the mood for some cold draft beers this is your place. They always have a great selection to choose from and the waiters are knowledgeable about what's on tap. The menu is pretty small but we have enjoyed everything we have ordered here so far!

We simply can't visit Sunriver without several visits to this beloved coffee spot. Friendly staff, a huge menu, and a very cozy lounge area make this our favorite breakfast place. The giant squares of coffee-cake (spoiler - it's just actual cake w/o frosting) and mini-quiches are highly recommended. Indulge in one of their giant biscotti! Our kids love the hot cocoa which I'm pretty sure is made from scratch and actually tastes more like a chocolate milkshake. They have a drive-through as well (bonus for families!).

On a typical Central Oregon sunny day this might be the perfect spot for a picnic followed by swimming! Located only 1 hr north of Sunriver, the falls are only a half mile from the trailhead with a mostly easy trail.
