Avola is a small town best known for it's wine Nero d'Avola. 4km from our house it offers shopping, some restaurants/bars.

Siracusa was once the major city of the world and the oldest university of the world. The mathematician Archimedes (287 B.C.) is its most famous citizen. It's a 30 minute drive and offers shopping restaurants, historic places (the dome is built on a greek temple) and theatre plays in the old greek theatre. Don not miss this one!

A drive to Avola Antica ends at a natural reserve: Cava Grande. From there you can hike down to the natural lakes of Cava Grande and take a bath in ice cold pure cristal clear water. The hike is steep (ca 1hr) so be careful if you do it in the summer. Bring lots of drinking water, something to eat. There's no opportunity to buy anything once you're down there.!

Only a ruin is left, but in recent years the area has flurished again to new hights with lots of excellent restaurants (fish mostly), enoteca's and bars where you can enjoy your apertivo after the beach right there by the ocean.
