This is a unique place that relies on volunteers for its waiting staff, has a very community-oriented ethos, and operates on a pay-what-you-feel pricing model. You can pay $1 or $50 for you meal if you feel like it, and they won't bat an eye.
Always has a great vibe and is a good hub for other community-oriented things and generally meeting friendly people.
Generally open 12-3pm and again for dinner 6-9pm.

This place has respectable pizza, maybe not the absolute best you'll find but pretty good, but its Zataar wraps are unique and very tasty, definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for easy and tasty street food!

Faheem doesn't have the world's best service or decor, but it does have some excellent and spicy Indian and Pakistani food. I don't know of anywhere else around with comparable food, even though there are many competing Indian restaurants. If you want some really authentic Indian and Pakistani eats, this place is 100% the place to go.

If you want some really authentic Indian and Pakistani eats, this place is 100% the place to go.
Near here is a charming local market that's on every Sunday. They're known as the Addison Road Markets. Check it out if you can!

This is a charming Turkish Cafe that's an easy walk away. Generally good food and a fairly authentic atmosphere. Good place to sit and people-watch. Try their apple tea or their Turkish delight!

I didn't set out to list so many Turkish places, but there happen to be a few good ones nearby, so I'm listing them. This place has great and convenient street food, definitely several steps up from the usual kebabs and wraps you find.

If you're into books, this place is an iconic and very large 2nd hand bookshop. It used to be the absolute best, and it's still a good place to get lost for a little while.

Sydney Uni has a great campus with 19th century English architecture, and a decent park nearby also. It's a nice place to spend an afternoon wandering.

This popular Sydney beach is one bus ride away. Catch the 370 from King street and you're on your way to the beach! If it's a really nice day and a weekend or public holiday, I strongly recommend catching the bus from just outside Newtown station. Yes, it's a little extra walking, but those busses can get packed and you don't want to be turned away!
While you're here, you can do the iconic (and very beautiful) Coogee to Bondi coastal walk.
