For summer time, I strongly recommend taking the ferry or water taxi from harbourfront centre to visit the Centre Island. There is also a small amusement park and farm on the Island so kids love it. The beach areas are great! Also have a very private naked beach if you can find it! You can swim, walk around or rent a bike.
